Cozumel, baby! The Fantastic Voyage sailed on down the coast to Mexico where the big event for the day was the Beach Party. Well, at least that was the big event off the ship.
On the ship, for the 24 finalists of the on-board Tyler Perry auditions, today was the nail-biting, nerve-wracking day where they would find out whether or not they were the one going to be chosen for a role in a Tyler Perry production.
As it turns out, Tyler announced that in honor of Tom’s impending retirement in 2019, he’d take all the finalists and give them the opportunity to be part of a production in the future.

Tyler also had a book signing for his book Higher is Waiting as part of Sybil’s Book Club. Tyler dropped a bunch of gems on the audience and this time, Sybil got a chance to ask a few questions, unlike her earlier signing that Jenifer Lewis pretty much took over.
Off to the beach in Cozumel – Playa Mia Beach, to be exact. There’s hardly an adequate way to describe what went down there. We’ll try our best, though. Kool Out hosted the Beach Party which included party games (something with a balloon that involved lots of contact and other similar games) and the Regional Dance-Off, where teams from Florida, ATL, Houston, New Orleans, Chicago competed not for prizes but for the respect of their respective hometowns.
Florida had a strong team featuring former Basketball Wives star Royce Reed who showed off a variety of gymnastic dance skills. But they could not overcome the Beyoncè themed team from H-Town, who got in formation and repped the Queen all the way to a win.
Elsewhere on the beach, the buffet was happening and the margaritas were flowing because what is a beach party without food and drink? Massages and water sports, including a giant water slide and inflatable water fun area were also available. If you wanted sun, you could lay out on the beach chairs under the sun or an umbrella or you could join the football party in the pool.

And of course, the Ques were there, and so was Mr. Tom Joyner, posing it up with his frat brothers and one of his two sons, Oscar, also a Que Dawg. Gotta love that legacy bonding. Impromptu photo shoots were taking place turning good-looking cruisers into models and the beach vibes were all good, as well as the weather which aside from a quick sprinkle, was as sunny and warm as the people enjoying it.
Back on ship, the rush was on to get dressed and have dinner before the second Babyface/Lalah Hathaway concert. And as it was 70’s Theme Night, you had to make sure those outfits were right. So if you saw the Babyface show through a sea of Afros, well, that was the 70’s.

Over at the Limelight, it was all about go-go. The Chuck Brown tribute band formed to pay homage to the late great Godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown. DJ Kool and Suga Bear of E.U. had the crowd rocking with a medley of rhythm heavy go-go staples as well as some funked-up hip-hop hits.
The 70’s parade featured Tom Joyner in his best 70’s gear as the late Don Cornelius of Soul Train fame. He was almost upstaged by Lt. Uhuru of Star Trek, the bill from Schoolhouse Rock and Guy Torry as Flip Wilson and Geraldine.
Yes, we said Flip Wilson AND Geraldine. And of course, they were followed by the creative group who dressed up as members of the Black Panther party, even giving out copies of the Panther’s 10s-point program.
The 2 a.m. featured Heat Wave, A Taste Of Honey, and the Brothers Johnson and if you know anything about those old school acts – they came to play and play they did, well into the wee hours. So if you made it that late, you’re a trouper. Now, onto the next day and the final Theme Night – as the Fantastic Voyage is almost over. *Sobs*
