BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — ESPN anchor Jemele Hill has been suspended by the network for two weeks for making political statements on social media.

Hill, who is African-American, received backlash last month after referring to President Donald Trump as a “white supremacist” after he suggested players be fired for kneeling during the national anthem.

Hill’s more recent tweets targeted Jerry Jones after the Dallas Cowboys owner stated that players who disrespect the flag would not play for his team.

Hill tweeted Sunday that fans who disagree with Jones should boycott the team’s advertisers and not buy the team’s merchandise.

“Cowboys have a huge national following,” she wrote in one of a series of tweets. “Lot of black & brown folks are Cowboys fans. What if they turned their backs on them?”

She clarified Monday she was not calling for an NFL boycott.

ESPN said in a statement Monday that Hill had acknowledged “letting her colleagues and company down” with the Trump tweet.

“In the aftermath, all employees were reminded of how individual tweets may reflect negatively on ESPN and that such actions would have consequences. Hence this decision,” the statement said.

Hill did not immediately respond to a request for comment on her suspension.

Before she was suspended, Hill responded Sunday to a Twitter follower who suggested that NFL players would learn a lesson about “getting fired for not doing what your boss requires you to do.”

“Because if we did everything the boss said, Americans would still be dying of tuberculosis in factories,” she replied.

      Thank you Alice.
“In mid to late 2015, Radio One purchased, from Comcast, the balance of the ownership interest in the network it didn’t already control, placing TV One as the only minority-owned general-interest TV network in the country”
Stop listening to white folks, we can learn for ourselves we don’t have accept what they say as the truth. Reading is fundamental and so is learning.

  2. Boston Ben, you make a good point. The prez is continuing all this up heaval to take our focus away from all the other devilment he is involved with.

  3. Yes, Black people need to creat their own jobs and stop relying on white society. As long as we continue to relie on white society, we will always be in this boat. They can change the rules/game in the last minutes of the fourth quarter.

You are so right about working for our self and shop from black business like every one else do with their cultures. By the way Trump can call black people names and other too but no one can say anything about him. We are all God children there not one any different from the other blood is red not white nor black , what would one say when he or she stand before God when he question us about what we did on earth.

  4. D, didn’t say shit about jhuffs comments. As usual the fake dr is trying to misrepresent my comments. Bitch Larry, I can speak for myself. The fake ass prez is always coming for blk women. I will be glad when his incompetent ass is impeached or his fake ass resigns. He can talk about Jemele Hill but his bitch ass is scared to say anything about his bf, Putin.

So working for ESPN is like being a field slave picking cotton on a southern plantation right? Obviously or Jemele Hill would still be on air as an ESPN sports commentator. And being a Dallas Cowboy football player is like being a slave on a sugarcane plantation in Texas, because the athletes have been ORDERED to stand during the national anthem or risk their jobs. Very good white people. Keep reminding African Americans why the flag does NOT unite us as a country and why “taking a knee” is one of several different kinds of sustained protests we all need to engage in, as a continuous way of challenging institutionalized racism in America. I also hear that the NBA has told players that kneeling during the national anthem will not be tolerated. OK BLACK people what are we going to do to support our athletes and sports journalists? Complain or act? I suggest that athletes stand for the national anthem WITH THEIR FIST RAISED IN THE BLACK POWER SALUTE. I suggest that ESPN give Ms Hill her job back, stop harassing her or we need to BOYCOTT ALL ESPN SPONSORS. Two can play that game.

    • Apparently you’ve never worked for a high profile organization Ms Hill was happy to represent ESPN and use that platform to espouse her “opinions” what organization would allow that just like the cops who were reprimanded for the blue lives matter buttons on their uniforms 2nd those so-called NFL slaves are PAYED far more than
95% of the white population of this country by that so-called slave master whom they represent when they play/work-for/represent when they willfully and with-out coercion put on that uniform, so if you want black players to give the “black power” salute then shut your mouth when you see those give the “white power” salute

  9. What bothers me about this whole Colin Kaepernick situation is that his initial reason for protesting has been distorted. When he gave the interview last year he talked about: injustice/inequality for black people and people of color and how those who serve this country are mistreated when they come home. He wanted to use his platform as a means to bring awareness to what was going on because his conscience would no longer allow him to be silent. He could no longer honor a flag and anthem that is not true for everyone BUT he was clear that he did not want to be disrespectful to those who served this country hence him kneeling instead of sitting. In his own words he was never asked to stop protesting but was asked what he was doing and why. He never asked anyone to protest w/him, though he said some supported him. Colin’s protest was quiet but mainstream media and social media made this whole thing a circus and mainstream media is now using it for their own agenda and then hiding behind freedom of speech. And if you think the NFL teams unifying 2 weeks ago and all these athletes kneeling now is about what Colin started, think again. Right now what we are seeing is rebellion against what Donald Trump said.

The racist are trying to make taking a knee about disrespecting veterans when AmeriKKKa doesn’t give a damn about their veterans. Military vets have the highest rates of homeliness, unemployment, mental illness and suicide. When they come home there are little to n services available to them. And what about the black soldiers who served in Vietnam, and The Tuskegee Airmen who came home and were treated like s**t under that flag that they served. And the fact they fought, served and died didn’t do a damn thing to change relations in this county. When white people talk about patriotism and their flag their always speaking from a white supremacist perspective.

Jerry Jones is a trump supporting racist, I guess he got backlash for kneeling last week so now he has to prove himself too all the racist & let them know that he’s still one of them. Every black player on that team should take a knee & see what his ass does.

  13. Curt Schilling an ex-MLB pitcher like many other jocks was hired by ESPN after he retired. He was a frequent “offender” with his right wing polemic, including on the air, and his negative tweet about the LGBT community was his 3d strike, which put him out.I’m all for Jemele but if they can do it to him,you know they’ll do it to her if she’s called out again for strike 3. I believe she may want to quit sports and do hard news coverage and political commentary. It worked out for Bryant Gumbel and Robin Roberts (her on ESPN’s Disney sister network ABC) who eventually became network anchors.
