Janelle Monáe’s cousin, Natasha Hays, was murdered in a drive-by Wednesday in Kansas City, Kansas.

Monáe announced the tragic news on her Twitter before pleading for an end to the gun violence that’s terrorized her hometown and the entire nation.

The singer tweeted: “The fear of ‘who is next?’ Never leaves… Help us.”

According to KSHB Kansas City, Hays was killed in her sleep. Police have not named a suspect. The former nurse is the 25th victim to lose their life to gun violence in Kansas City this year.
