ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Latest on the St. Louis shooting death of an 8-month-old boy and the search for his father, the suspected gunman (all times local):

5:50 p.m.

St. Louis police say the two young brothers of an 8-month-old boy shot to death by a suspect identified as his father have been found safe.

Det. Nicole White told The Associated Press Tuesday that both boys were located in the late afternoon. She declined to provide further details about how or where they were found.

Police are continuing to search for 34-year-old Diata R. Crockett, who is wanted in the death of Reign Crockett.

The 8-month-old boy died in his mother’s arms along a St. Louis interstate highway in what police characterized as a domestic dispute that began at their St. Louis County home.

The suspect in the fatal St. Louis shooting of his 8-month-old son on an interstate highway has served time in Missouri prisons for several previous convictions, online court records show.

Thirty-four-year-old Diata R. Crockett remained at large late Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by his 2-year-old and 3-year-old sons. His criminal record includes convictions for burglary, resisting arrest and forgery.

It’s unclear when he was released from prison. St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said that Crockett “may be wanted for a parole violation.”

St. Louis’ police chief says the fatal shooting of an 8-month-old boy in which his father is the suspect began as a domestic dispute.

Police Chief Sam Dotson said Tuesday that Reign Crockett died in his mother’s arms from a single shot fired by 35-year-old Diata Crockett as his wife was trying to leave their car on an interstate highway ramp.

Crockett apparently forced his wife and three of their six children into the car during a dispute that began at their home in Bellefontaine Neighbors, a St. Louis County suburb north of the city limits.

Diata Crockett remains at large with two other children, 2-year-old Rycker Crockett and 3-year-old Blase Crockett.

An 8-month-old boy is dead after a shooting in north St. Louis, and police are searching for the father who is the suspected gunman.

Officers say the suspect, 35-year-old Diata Crockett, may have his two other children, 2-year-old Rycker Crockett and 3-year-old Blase Crockett, with him.

The shooting happened about 2 p.m. Tuesday near Interstate 270 and Riverview. Multiple media reports say that police believe that Crockett shot toward the child’s mother, who was holding the boy. The bullet instead struck the child, who was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the child was not immediately released.

Investigators are searching for a black 2014 Hyundai Sonata with Illinois license plate V446952.

Police did not disclose a possible motive for the shooting.
