When will New York City police realize that chokeholds are outlawed and stop using the deadly tactic on unsuspecting black citizens?

Days after Eric Garner, a Black father, died when New York cops put him in a tragic chokehold, New York police used the lethal method on a pregnant Black woman in a dispute over an illegal street grilling incident.

The woman, Rosan Miller, 27, is seven months pregnant and police cracked down on her because she was unlawfully grilling.

Unlawful grilling? Really?

According to The New York Daily News, police went to Miller’s home last weekend because Miller was grilling on a public sidewalk in violation of local law. But during an altercation, Miller, her brother and husband all ended up in handcuffs.

The brother, John Miller, was charged with harassment and obstruction of justice. Her husband, Moses Miller, 34, was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction. Her son got a summons for disorderly conduct.

What is with police putting Black folks in chokeholds after confrontations over non-violent crimes? Garner was subdued over selling loose cigarettes and Miller was roughed-up over grilling.

Garner and Miller aren’t criminals. They don’t deserve to be subjected to choke holds – nobody does.

Mr. Michael H. Cottman, This article could not have been more appropriately titled
“NYPD Needs New Attitudes, Not New Procedures” First of all, Black folks
need to stop trusting white folks. White cops all over the USA think that they
can abuse Black folks with impugnity And they do. While all the while proclaim-
ing their innocence of racism. Racism is in their DNA. Has racism from whites
toward Blacks EVER stopped in America? In America, whites always want us to
give them the benefit-of-the-doubt about their racism. But, do they ever give
Black folks the benefit-of-the-doubt? Mr. Eric Garner didn’t get the benefit-of-
the doubt. Any brother who walks into a retail establishment is automatically
thought of as a thief. And how many brothers have been wrongfully convicted
and spent decades in prison? Rarely does that happen to anyone who is not Black.
Whites are always saying “you are playing the race card…I’m not racist” Yea…
and the monkey didn’t eat the bananas, either…
