Mark O’Mara, the no-nonsense attorney for George Zimmerman, took his defense of Zimmerman out of the courtroom this week and deliberately infused race in a trial where racial profiling remains an emotionally explosive issue.

O’Mara is trying hard to drum up support for Zimmerman in the court of public opinion, but I’m not buying it.

In an interview with CNN’s “Piers Morgan Live,” O’Mara portrayed his client as a victim – even though Zimmerman shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin during a scuffle on a rainy night in Sanford, Florida last year. It’s hard to make a compelling argument that Zimmerman was the victim when he’s still alive and Trayvon Martin is dead.

O’Mara claims that Zimmerman’s safety is at risk and implied that his client will be looking over his shoulder forever regardless of whether he’s convicted or acquitted.

“First of all, my client will never be safe, because there are a percentage of the population who are angry, they’re upset, and they may well take it out on him,” O’Mara said. “So, he’ll never be safe.”

It was overly dramatic.

And regardless of how O’Mara portrays Zimmeman, several critical facts are  etched in my mind: Trayvon Martin was unarmed. Zimmerman followed Trayvon Martin when police told Zimmerman to stand down; he profiled Trayvon anyway for no legitimate reason, he told the police dispatcher that “these assholes always get away,” and then he shot Trayvon in the heart.

That’s a real problem for me.

O’Mara, however, said Zimmerman is innocent and told viewers that fair-minded people – both black and white – should come to the conclusion that Zimmerman is not guilty after reviewing the facts in the case.

Zimmerman pleaded not guilty to second degree murder charges and says he shot Trayvon Martin in self-defense.

“Anybody who pays attention to the facts of this case, listens to the evidence, will not leave that courtroom thinking that George Zimmerman is guilty of anything,” O’Mara said.

“And, if a jury agrees, they should not and cannot be frustrated with the outcome because the State’s put on a good case, we put on a good case, everything that should get out to this jury has been out,” he said.

“If they decide on the facts of the case, we as a society – Black, White, everybody – need to look at this case and say justice was in fact accomplished here, because a fair trial was held.”

Why is O’Mara portraying Zimmerman as a victim of hateful people on national television? Is it desperation or a clever strategy?  And is O’Mara implying that black Americans are the people who are “angry” and “upset” and “may well take it out” on Zimmerman?

I’m disturbed that O’Mara would raise the issue of race in such a flagrant way knowing that the racially-charged trial, at its core, is about racial profiling and Zimmerman, a Hispanic man, killing a black teenager who was not carrying a weapon.

O’Mara should restrict his defense of Zimmerman to the courtroom and save the television theatrics for after the trial.

George Zimmerman has nothing to be afraid of now Skintalker, imo, because he is still armed. Maybe he needs to carry a couple more magazines for his total bullet-capacity but I don’t believe he will be scared of anything. Go ahead and see for yourself, walk up to him, threaten to kill him and start beating his head against anything made of concrete and see what happens to you.

I am deeply saddened by some of these responses to the final verdict. I am most saddened by the blatant RACIAL HATRED and PREJUDICE that it has brought to the forefront. As one blogger said, anyone that believes that society has evolved in the area of RACE RELATIONS is truly in DENIAL. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to HATE another human being simply because they look different than me. FEAR, a lack of AWARENESS (mainly created by media sensationalism) and a lack of EXPOSURE to different cultures is obviously at the core of this DIS-EASE. HATRED is either a learned behavior or a CHOICE in how we want to perceive others. It may be the response to a negative experience with someone of a different race, but regardless of the origin it is like CANCER. Eventually it will eat you ALIVE!

I DON’T AGREE WITH THE VERDICT at all, but as someone who has served as a juror on a number of cases, I understand how the legal system works. The Prosecution simply did not prove its position. There were 5 questions that the jurors considered:
    2. WHO WAS ON TOP?

The Prosecution’s case simply did not prove these beyond a reasonable doubt. Rachel Gentile’s testimony really hurt the case and I am disappointed that the Prosecution did not coach and prepare her better. The defense made a mockery of all BLACK youth through her and it was a RELENTLESS pursuit! I feel that Zimmerman should have been charged with MANSLAUGHTER at a minimum. He PROFILED Trayvon Martin, followed him and clearly PROVOKED the incident. Zimmerman had no choice but to act in self-defense. He incited what resulted in the shooting of an UN-ARMED victim. The references to traces of THC in Martin’s bloodstream, was irrelevant and only publicized to encourage RACIAL STEREOTYPING and support the real purpose of the media focus on this case…To strengthen RACIAL DIVISIVENESS. I don’t HATE George Zimmerman, because he was just a pawn…and he was a very easy one! I regret that young Trayvon Martin had to lose his life when we all know that he was NOT doing anything ILLEGAL! There was no JUSTIFIABLE reason for Zimmerman to follow him that night. The people who think that he had a reason to kill Trayvon are filled with HATE and an elusive sense of racial SUPERIORITY. The TRUTH is that we all will LEAVE this earth one day…BLACK, WHITE, HISPANIC, etc. Life is TOO SHORT to live in so much FEAR and with HATRED in your heart. We all need to focus on the bigger picture and that is that we are DESTROYING ourselves! We should be focusing our ENERGY on EDUCATION, SPIRITUAL AWARENESS, the improvement of our PHYSICAL bodies and saving our EARTH! Our government spends more money funding PRISONS than they do EDUCATING our youth. It is the modern-day form of SLAVERY. All of our systems are VERY FLAWED when it comes to racial INEQUITIES. We as citizens simply ACCEPT it and allow the MEDIA to keep us distracted. Black people too easily allow this SOCIETY to DEFINE them. Our right to VOTE has been negatively impacted because those that seek to maintain the status quo KNOW (and FEAR) that if black people FIGURE OUT that they do have CONTROL over some of the INEQUALITY they are subjected to, they will RISE to a more LEVEL playing field.

LET’S use this TRAGEDY as a catalyst to help ALL people realize that the bigger war is between the HAVES and the HAVE-NOTS! Black people just happen to make up the MAJORITY of the HAVE-NOTS!

Where did you get your degree? What’s it in? Do you work? If so, what line if work are you in? Do you receive social security, disability, etc? When do you have time to attend to your business? You are so consumed with African Americans. You need to seek help. Your insurance does cover that type of thing, right?

Tami, degree? I have several, all college and University degrees, all hanging on my wall in my office, thank you. All of your questions can be answered by visiting the graduate sites and link in to over a dozen more links for more specific information, but I do not see the relevance here in this discussion of the Acquittal of George Zimmerman and the appropriate death of Trayvon Martin.

Sure. You spend to much time being obnoxious to have anything going for yourself. I also, see that you never answer the questions asked of you. You are a fraud. Please hurry and o.d. on your medications, so BAW can get a break from you. Hopefully, you will get a black doctor at the VA, and the jealousy will send you on through. And, I agree that you are a fraud and not even interested in this blog-topic as demonstrated by your trolling-misconduct. Mr. Zimmerman is still not guilty of any crime in this case and never will be no matter how upset or irate you are and will continue to be not guilty. Tami is a troll and should be banned from this site, imo. There are other people here wanting to discuss this blog-topic and Tami has proved incapable of that simple task. Tami has been banned by over 20 different sites already, at least under her/it’s current identity-name.

I don’t think the writers on this site even watched the trial. There is no way he gets convicted. Common misconception is that the police told Zimmerman to stand down. That is not true. They questioned the dispatcher about that. The dispatcher testified that they are not allowed to give commands. You are allowed to follow someone if they look suspicious. There has been crime in the neighborhood committed by young black males. It was tragic but it was not a crime.

    • Ivan Cohen on said:

Where are the statistics which show that crimes committed in the community Zimmerman was patrolling is just limited to young black males? It’s not like no other ethnic young males did not live there. How would Zimmerman know who belonged in the community and who did not? I cannot picture him going around with a roster that has the name of residents. George has perfected the credo of profile now and shoot ’em to justify my theory.

    • JanCorey on said:

Thanks for proving my points Shirley, and, you’re welcome for the education. I don’t think it will take long for the jury, it’s a pretty simple case, an easy self-defense case provoked by a dope-head committing a crime and got shot.

  4. Shirley M. Crump on said:

And whose fault is THAT????? You live by the sword, you live by the sword…God gave us all free will….We are a product of the choices we make, good or bad…Regardless of the verdict, Mr. Zimmerman will forever have the blood of Trayvon Martin on his hands…

    • JanCorey on said:

No blood on his hands Shirley, just awards, citations of merit, and winnings from the upcoming lawsuits against the dope-head’s parents after the trial concludes. The blood of Trayvon is all gone, washed away by the rain and down the drain at the coroner’s office. Worthless shi* is always disposed of and thanks to Mr. Zimmerman another prison bed-space is now open because Trayvon will not need that space now.

  5. Ivan Cohen on said:

I know George Zimmerman’s attorney is not looking to the taxpayers of Florida to afford his client safe passage… the Cayman Islands after the trial is over. Other than his family who would want to claim Zimmerman as a tax deduction? The “guilty conscience” is putting a hurt on him and paranoia.

      • JanCorey on said:

PHKatz, exactly, a beverage in a metal can IS a weapon as well as the use of cement against a head with no helmet is also a crime. And, being high on an illegal substance is also a crime. Like the case pointed out, had Trayvon lived, he would have been charged with multiple felonies for his attack against George Zimmerman.

  7. LaMon Evans on said:

Bashed his head??? Come on. I have bled more just shaving my head. He probably did hit is head when TM hit him trying to defend himself from someone who he thought was trying to do him harm.

You can’t tell me that the wanna-be cop didn’t have his gun drawn. He said on the 911 call that he though TM was armed. No cop or someone training to be a cop would pursue a suspect who they thought was armed and not have his gun ready.

    • JanCorey on said:

He didn’t have his gun drawn as Trayvon was trying to kill Mr. Zimmerman, the gun was drawn after Mr. Zimmerman had immanent fear of death or great bodily harm as ARMED-Trayvon (with the sidewalk) bashed Mr. Zimmerman’s head into the concrete. Sounds like you aren’t following this case very well LaMon. Get ready for the needed Acquittal.

      • LaMon Evans on said:

GZ is a liar. I know you are smart enough to know that he had his gun drawn during the 4 minutes he was looking for TM. TM was the first to feel that his life was in immediate danger. He was the one being followed by GZ.

  12. Unless George Zimmerman has placed his address in the classified section of a newspaper, no one other than law enforcement, his lawyer and family members knows where he resides. If he (Zimmerman) is so paranoid and apparently the trait passed over to O’Mara then just keep him in a witness protection program for the rest of his natural life. If the guilt don’t get George, the stress definitely will, next thing I will probably read is how this heinous deed he committed drove him to drink literally. He’s either in AA or the Betty Ford Clinic.

    2. If Trayvon had gotten the best of Zimmerman in the fight he would have no reason to scream for help.
    3. I believe that when Zimmerman pull his gun and said that you are going to die tonight.
    4. That when Trayvon saw the gun and he scream for help.

  14. I am white and I grew up in a black community so I feel I can relate to both sides of this racial issue. I am married to a black man and have bi-racial children. Reading these racist comments makes me ashamed to be white right now. I really wanted to believe that our country has overcome allot of its racial issues yet this case has proved me wrong. TM was a young man minding his own business. Why GZ did what he did really does make this a race issue because A). GZ would not have pursued TM had he not been black and B). TM would be in jail if the roles were reversed there wouldn’t even be a trail, TM would have went straight to jail. So sad…I pray for TM family they should not have to go through this. I feel his parents deserve more respect here…they just lost their son and none of us can relate to what they are going through. What is just as sad is the racist mentality of most of the commenters on here to justify GZ in his wrongful actions and sadly that is the same mentality more than likely of those jurors who are majority white and have a weapon or have relatives who have a weapon. Regarding the marijuana, if TM did have a trace of THC that does not make him a thug or give the media or defense the right to make him out to be anything but a regular teenager. What teenager has not experimented? And last time I checked you can have a trace in your system for at least a month so no one can officially say he was high that night. And if TM did beat GZ head into the ground which I do not believe…I believe in my opinion that GZ hit his own head to look as if there was a struggle (On a side note why is no one really addressing the fact that GZ dad IS white and was a Florida judge, the Stanford police have had GZ back from the jump and probably assisted him in making his version of the story and the evidence in his favor. GZ studied the judicial system and his own teacher said GZ was quite intrigued by the stand your ground law yet GZ lied and said he did not know about it…interesting) I would have too because GZ was a stranger at night in the rain following TM. Didn’t most of your parents tell you not to talk to strangers? So that alone is reason enough for TM to run and try to get away. GM profiled TM followed him pursued him then attacked him and killed him. GZ is a grown man and TM is a teenager, I find it hard to believe that GZ could not over power TM. And if GZ was over powered by TM that just proves that GZ is a punk and had to use his gun because he couldn’t restrain a teenager. He should have done himself and the Martin family a favor instead of carrying an armed weapon he should have invested in some self-defense lessons. If TM did fight back he was the one defending himself from a stranger who attacked him. And if this is the case GZ could have used better judgment for life and shot TM somewhere not fatal. Instead he choose to shoot to kill which really shows his mentality of a vigilante and a man who wanted to use his power as a police officer but was denied thank GOD. I like to believe that God prevented him from having this power. I just LOVE how GZ is getting fatter and fatter and his defense is claiming he has asthma…really. They want to paint the jury a false picture that GZ was unfit and therefore unable to defend himself against a teenager who played football. Let’s not forget that GZ was not fat when he murdered TM. SMH
About the voice on the 911 call it is obvious that it belonged to TM you can tell the voice is that of a young man. Sad that those supporting GZ can testify a lie…their souls will pay the price. The morals of people really has not changed in this country to really believe that GZ had a right to kill an unarmed young man walking home with a tea and skittles wearing a hoodie in the rain. People please stop and REALLY think instead of being so hateful and use your common sense please if TM was your son, grandson or nephew would you still believe that GZ is not guilty and had the right to shoot and kill an unarmed teenager. GM deserves the death penalty yet all he is charged with is 2nd degree murder…COMMON FREAKIN SENSE and the evidence is he killed TM and had no reason or right to do so point blank period. Are you really saying that he should not have any penalty for murdering another human being? If so that just makes no sense at all and shows you are racist and ignorant to say the least. So I guess everyone who attacks someone and kills them has the right to do so…oh I guess that would only apply to a white person or in this case a half white person. Beyond sad…this is disgusting…makes me so ill to think of all the racist people that are in this country. I pray for all you racist people. I hope that one day you will need some type of transplant and all that is available to save your immoral soul is the organ or blood of a black person…knowing how racist you are you will instead die. AMEN!!

If GZ is not found guilty lord help us all. Our country is at a crossroads here and if justice is not served who knows what will come of it. I feel so scared and sad for my children, this could happen to them.
Sad to say that the outcome of this trail will more than likely not be a guilty verdict. I honestly lost my faith in people and our own judicial system after the Casey Anthony trail.

    • Cheerios commerical…wtf are you even talking about. Guess your trying to be funny but really don’t. You are an idiot so please just stfu. I have heard no one speak any racial comments towards Zimmerman and if they did he surely deserves them. Zimmerman wants to be white so bad. He is now claiming to “identify” with his hispanic heritage only to make people believe he was not racial profiling when he murdered Trayvon. I pray that he is convicted so he can learn the hard way that he is not white enough for the judicial system in this country. Oh I forgot he has his white florida retired judge father to foot the bill, everyone knows outside of white people those with money have the power.

    subject: George Zimmerman Trial

I am really disappointed at how the trail is going. I am not an attorney, but it seems to me that the prosecution is not putting on a strong case for conviction. They are allowing the defense to paint this murderer, Zimmerman as a helpless victim, with his ridiculous lies. You know that if situation was reversed we would have been already serving time for murder, just with all of the know facts presented. I believe that the prosecution could have used the following: Travoyn Martin had every reason to fear for his life, being stalked by some unknown person, on a dark rainy night in a strange place far (more than 250 miles away) from his home in Miami.
Travoyn was the one fighting for his life. He simply wanted to make it back home. One item that was not focused on by the prosecution is the Arizona Ice T. The evidence shows that Travoyn had a can in his pocket. Most of those can of iceT is at least 20 ounces in size. Pickup one, feel the weight in your hand and tell me if you cant do some serious damage to someone’s head. It is hard to forget that he had the can, because it would swing in his pocket or in a shopping bag. If Travoyn wanted to attack / hurt Zimmerman, instead of “sucker” punching him, he could have smashed him in the head with that full can of iceT. This could possible knock him out or at least cause far more damage with a single shot. The evidence presented showed that Travoyn didn’t use the can of IceT as a weapon at all. Why not? It is because he was never the aggressor. He simply wanted to make it home and turned to face Zimmerman, only because Zimmerman had caught up to him. He had no reason to go looking for Zimmerman or hide in some bushes that do not exist. Zimmerman had to have walked at a faster pace to catch up with Travoyn. I believe that Zimmerman tried to man handle him / detain him because he was convince that he was as he put it “up to no good”. Zimmerman on the other hand had no reason to fear, because, he never forgot that he had that gun on his side. It’s like someone picking a fight (knowing that you have 10 big guys waiting in the wings to come to your defense, and beat the other party to a pulp, should you start to lose the fight. Zimmerman never forgot for a minute that he had that deadly weapon. Unfortunately for Travoyn (lets remember he was a minor dealing with a grown man), he didn’t have much of a chance. This was nothing less that a frustrated vigilante that was bent on taking the law into his own hands (Zimmerman’s words: “they always get away”). I believe that Zimmerman tried to detain him and the tussle broke out, with Travoyn just wanted to get away from him and go home. The yells for help, could have been Zimmerman, trying to hold onto to Martin. As Martin fought to free himself, Zimmerman did someone to Martin to get a small separation so that he could pull out his gun. Whatever he did to Martin, It caused that scream. That scream sounded like a painful / shrieking scream, cause by Zimmerman to martin. That’s when he pulled the gun and shot him in the chest. He should be sent to jail for a long time. Even then he will still be able to have some life to live. Travoyn Martin life was taken from him.

Welfare was invented for your grandmammy and grandpappy during the Depression. You remember those stories of them begging for soup and bread, without your snotty nose parents in tow. Be real.

Welfare distribution of benefits no longer aligns with the demography of poverty. African-Americans, who make up 22 percent of the poor, receive 14 percent of government benefits, close to their 12 percent population share.

White non-Hispanics, who make up 42 percent of the poor, receive 69 percent of government benefits – again, much closer to their 64 percent population share.

I am sure you have plenty excuses for why these people, your people, are on welfare…keep them. I work, graduated from college, have two degrees, and don’t really care who’s on the system either way. I just need you to shut up!

Tami, you just proved yourself to be wrong on each issue in your last rant. Try, instead, to only deal with the facts of this case and the high probability of an Acquittal-verdict at the conclusion of this case.

    • @JanCorey You are a complete waste of a human being! Stop stereotyping and face the fact that all races of people in American have their welfare, prison and low life individuals. To say young man deserved to be murdered shows your racist ignorance. Shame on you. You are so bold to spew such evil on an internet blog but I can guarantee you would not spew that evil in person to a person of color. You are a coward and you sicken me. People like you deserve the same punishment Zimmerman deserves…death. Without people like you our country would be a much better place. Why don’t you take your hate somewhere it can be more appreciated.

Blacks especially have those bad stats, at least if one deals with the proven statistics.

      • Wow how stupid you apparently are to think I hate people of color. Stop projecting your obvious views of hate onto me please. My mentality is that we are all human and should stop stereotyping one another. All races of people have their good and bad. Your mentality is that of a racist so you are the one with no real meaning substantive reasoning. I pray that you are freed from your ignorant racist immoral mind set one day before you are in Zimmerman’s situtation. I have more important things to do with my time than to continue to go back and forth on something that you are obviously too blind to see. People like you never change…only continue the hate cycle.

I see the facts of this case are still scaring you Sondra. try, instead of attackers others, to read the facts about this case and you will eventually realize just how wrong you are.

Some people that are uninformed to the actual fact6s of this case are scared of the facts, and thank you Kay for proving my point.

      • I am uninformed of the actual facts of this case. But what does that have to do with the price of apples in Washington when it comes to my assessment of your mental stability?

      • JanCorey on said:

No, not terminal as you so incorrectly claim, just a crime victim. Gun-Control is being able to hit your target.
