Don’t wait until January to revitalize your weight loss plans. Dr. Ian Smith, a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition wants to help you get back on your healthy track.

Dr. Smith has become a popular expert in healthy living thanks to his TV appearances on VH1’s reality hit-show “Celebrity Fit Club” as well as serving as a medical contributor to the Rachel Ray show.

He believes that losing weight is 80 percent mental and only 20 percent physical.

"That's not to say that we should give up on exercise, but we need to keep our head in the game,” Smith said.

Dr. Smith emphasized that the most important element in weight-loss is keeping the mind and body connected. In doing so, Dr. Smith suggested that people should look beyond the scale in measuring weight loss success.

Dr. Smith also recommends creating a practical plan to help you achieve your weight loss goals. For example, he believes creating a list of healthy activities and food options can come in handy when facing temptation. He also encourages you to discover what type of eater you are as a way to curb mindless eating and prepare your mind and body for change.
