A South Carolina family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against American-Airlines for not attempting an emergency landing which they believe resulted in the death of their daughter, according to BET.
Brittany and Cory Oswell boarded a flight from Honolulu to Dallas when she began to get sick according to court documents. Hours into the flight, Brittany, who was a nurse began to get dizzy, disoriented and slurred her words before fainting.
A doctor on board examined her and said she was having a panic attack. However, things got worse as the plane flew over Albuquerque, NM, Brittany went to the bathroom when she began vomiting and defecated all over herself.
The doctor that examined her before upon checking on her informed flight attendants that the plane needed to make an emergency landing. Even with his warning, the flight crew ignored their request for an emergency landing and headed straight to Dallas which was 90 minutes away.
In that time, Brittany’s breathing and pulse stopped. She spent three days on life support with no brain activity at Baylor Medical Center before being taken off.
Doctors diagnosed her with acute massive pulmonary embolism and cardiogenic shock. Her parents and husband have opened up a lawsuit against American Airlines for not making an emergency landing which they believe could have saved Brittany’s life.
American Airlines released a statement saying, “We take the safety of our passengers very seriously and we are looking into the details of the complaint.
The family is suing for damages over severe emotional distress, anxiety, grief, and sorrow to be decided on by a court.
