“I got a notification for my arrest that I illegally voted,” explained Mason. She had no knowledge that she was not allowed to vote while on probation.

“There are a couple of cases as a matter of fact in Tarrant county another woman was sentenced to 8 years in prison,” explained Cole.

It really doesn’t matter. One can smell the irony of sending a black women on a 5 year prison term for exercising her sufferage rights in an election that ultimately put one of the most dangerous and ruthless racists on earth in the oval office. Everybody needs to be aware of the precedent this is setting in a world where we can be killed for illegally selling cigerattes, shopping in Walmart, or jaywalking. This is a lot bigger than one woman being imprisoned for voting…and it’s not good news for anyone, especially not African Americans.
