An alarming sign telling police officers that they are not welcomed was posted on the outside of an Atlanta gym.
Jim Chambers is the owner of the EAV Barbell Club in East Atlanta and says, “We’ve had an explicitly stated ‘No Cop’ policy since we opened, and we also don’t open membership to active members of the military.”
Chambers reason for the sign is that the gym functions as a community space and meeting for activist. Groups who work out there consist of a large minority groups who he says are uncomfortable with law enforcement.
According to 11Alive News, the Atlanta Police Department has not released a statement on the policy. However, they were told by the Department that, “were we to respond to an emergency there, this sign would not stop us from lawfully doing our job.”
