Things escalated quickly at one IHOP in Long Island. According to NBC 4, a family unhappy with the service they were getting found themselves in an argument with staff that eventually led to someone pulling out a knife.

The unidentified mother of the family told NBC 4 that her husband and two kids, who are both under four and have special medical and learning needs, had poor service. They requested to speak to the manager and the manager asked them to leave. According to the mother, they were preparing to exit when they heard another waitress say something about the kids’ disabilities. The family reportedly turned back around in response to the comment and the mother said, “all the wait staff engulfed us.” An argument followed and the waitress who had been serving the family picked up a steak knife, threatening the parents and kids. The mother said another IHOP employee grabbed the knife from the server and the family left. Nobody was injured, but the family was shook, said the mother.

The waitress who wielded the knife was arrested on a charge of menacing. She was released and is set to appear in court later this month. There is no info on why the manager supposedly asked the family to leave. The employees are not allowed to talk about the incident.

The owner of the IHOP franchise, Camile Gnolfo, issued a statement on Monday saying the business was cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. “This was a situation that would be difficult for anyone to imagine and we wish the outcome had been different,” Gnolfo said in the statement. “Multiple employees reacted to what they viewed as an immediate threat to their personal safety.”

Boy! you are hilarious. “He is no longer with us” I wouldn’t think so.
Chances are they left no tip.

  1. Here in Sin City, aka Las Vegas, people just shoot or stab you if you look at them the wrong way. The news is full of crazy killings nearly every single day. The other day a retired 62-year old Air Force veteran attacked the security guard at his apartment with a shovel, then when the cops came, he got an ax in each hand and started throwing them at the cops. He is no longer with us.

SS: I was in traffic one day and this lady was holding up traffic to allow someone to cross over our two lanes and the two lanes on the other side. Had the car pulled in front of her it couldn’t go anywhere because the traffic on the other side was extremely heavy. So I blew my horn to tell her to GO! MOVE ON! that car will have to wait it’s turn. So when I was finally able to get beside her, we’re staring each other down and then she starts fussing with major attitude and I started to say something, but instead I said “you’re right, I apologize” and smiled at her, after that, she had nothing to say. All it takes sometimes is just an apology even if you don’t feel you were wrong.

BINGO! Not every action warrants a reaction. I agree with you wholeheartedly; you choose your battles.

As far as what happened in iHop, I was not there and all of the details have not been shared to make an assessment. Therefore, most importantly, I will not judge, but point is, this is a senseless act all around, whether the family or the employees were at fault.

This is very upsetting, everyone is on edge, in restaurants, fast food sites, employees, customers, managers all behaving behaving badly. It seems that the state of our nation is effecting everyday communication, opinions, preferences are being put to a very very low level of consideration and self control!

  4. The family should have just kept it moving. What possible good could have come from turning around and going back to argue with someone who’s ignorant enough to make comments about disabled children?

  5. The IHOP waitress should have been FIRED!!!!!!!
Who pulls a steak knife on a disabled family?

Damn, you can’t even go out to eat anymore without some dumb-s–t occurring!!!!!!!

I’ll wait for more information, sometimes the customer is not always right, however, on the surface it appears wrong choices were made.
