Khoudia Diop has heard it all when it comes to her dark skin tone.

“They nicknamed me Darky, Daughter of the Night or Mother of the Stars,” said the 19-year-old Senegalese model, who says she was bullied about her color throughout her childhood. She has since learned to embrace her rich hue — and the Internet has followed suit.

Now, the self-proclaimed “@MelaninGoddess” is a top model with over 235,000 followers on Instagram, where she shows off her beautiful pics and inspires other dark-skinned girls with messages of self-love.

“I was teased a lot growing up, because of my skin tone,” Khoudia, who is based in Paris, told the Daily Mail. “And now even online sometimes, people will make comments. Growing up, I faced it by confronting the bullies. As I grew, I learned to love myself more every day, and not pay attention to the negative people.”

Khoudia, who began modeling when she was 17, says it’s time that young girls show pride in the features that make them unique.

“If you’re lucky enough to be different, don’t ever change,” she says.

  1. Hey Peter Johnson….why don’t you do Ancestry.com – – remember, 1/8 drop of African blood and you are considered black. You are so ignorant. We’re all from the Mother Land, my brotha! (tongue in cheek!)

She is an absolute natural beauty. As a very light skinned black woman, I always wished I could have smooth dark brown skin like some of my friends and family members. I feel washed out and wish I had me some more color.

  3. To Peter Johson: Be careful my man. With your African roots, it is very possible that one day you could have a black child. Now don’t go jumping off any roofs.

  4. Blame it on our culture, The media and Hollywood feature light skinned women. Add to that that many successful black men prefer white women and there you have it. Just the facts ladies, not looking for shade.

That child is gorgeous! I’m medium brown, and I cannot tell you how many times as a pre-teen and teenager that I heard boys (and other girls) say, “You’re cute to be dark.” I used to think…HUHN!?! Is that supposed to be a compliment?! So, I say, Rock on Black Beauty!!!!

OF COURSE SHE’S BEATIFUL!!! What did you think…..Only light-skinn-ded and White people are beautiful?……I DON’T THINK SO!!!

    • Unfortunately here in the USA we are taught that black is ugly. Even sadder a lot of black people think so to they have been programmed to self hate. The devil is a lie. Black is indeed beautiful. I as a darker skinned black girl have never felt bad about my skin tone I always receive compliments on
My tone mostly from white people.
