“My mom has always taught me to drink lots of water to keep healthy clear skin. Also, she’s taught me to avoid using body soap on my face and only facial cleansers.”

And it’s true.

Every organ and system in your body needs water — it helps regulate body temperature and flush out toxins, it aids in digestion and carries nutrients to your cells. Your skin is no exception. Its cells depend on water to function efficiently and repair damage. And while it’s true that the outermost layer of your skin may feel rough if it doesn’t contain enough water, there’s no science to prove that drinking extra water can make dry skin supple, according to the Mayo Clinic. To keep your skin hydrated, limit your time in hot or chlorinated water, use gentle cleansers instead of soap or products that contain alcohol, and moisturize as soon as you get out of the shower or bath to help trap water in your skin and to hydrate dry skin.

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body: Two glasses of water after waking up helps activate internal organs. One glass of water 30 minutes before a meal helps digestion, one glass of water before taking a bath – helps lower blood pressure and a glass of water before going to bed can help avoid stroke or heart attack.

In short, water will help you feel, look and perform better…just like Kaylan’s mom.
