The demands of a celebrity apparently outweigh the needs of the many when it comes to Timbaland.
According to the New York Daily News, the beatmaker refused to perform at a charity concert for Flint, Mich. residents affected by the city’s contaminated water supply.
The reason?
The venue where the event was held served the wrong brand of champagne.
The brand that Timbaland wanted was Ace of Spades . Replacing the two bottles of the brand, which were worth more than $300 each, Club Bleu had Dom Perignon on hand to serve at Club Bleu in Detroit late Thursday night (Jan. 28).
Nevertheless, Timbaland and his entourage weren’t that bummed over the lack of Ace of Spades. They kept the party going with making short work of two bottles of Patron, three bottles of Ciroc, two bottles of D’usse and one bottle of Disaronno Originale Italian Liqueur in Club Bleu’s VIP section.
“They had about 15 bottles of liquor and champagne, which is extremely excessive especially for a charity event,” Club Bleu co-owner Mitchell Jaworski told the Daily News. “They seemed more concerned about getting every drop of liquor.”
Making matters worse was the fact that Timbaland’s entourage failed to tip the club’s staff and exceeded their hospitality rider.
“It was a disaster,” Jaworski’s wife, Aureila, told the Daily News.
Timbaland’s refusal to perform looks to have violated a contract the producer’s management is allegedly disputing. The contract, which was signed two weeks ago, required that Timbaland perform a live set at Club Bleu that involved him DJ’ing for half an hour and performing five to eight songs before a crowd of about 300 concertgoers, the Daily News noted, adding that the contract paid Timbaland in advance for his services.
The drama over the champagne caused Timbaland to hit the stage after 1 a.m. Those looking for the entertainer to bring a memorable time got something far from that as Timbaland “just stood there” in defiance and nodded his head to the beat of another DJ who performed.
“His management (took) classlessness to a new level when they said Timbaland did ‘not feel like’ performing,” Jaworski wrote Saturday (Jan. 30)while slamming the music producer and his management on Facebook. “They then insisted that we show them the signed contract for the night and where the stipulation was for the ‘live’ performance. Finally management relented and literally had to wake Timbaland up so he could proceed to stand behind the decks and nod his head for 30 minutes.”
Timbaland’s less than professional attitude carried over off the stage as he refused to speak with Club Bleu employees while posing for photos. By 2 a.m., Timbaland had left the club after fulfilling his time obligation at the venue, according to the Daily News.
The Club Bleu incident isn’t the first time Timbaland has been unprofessional. The beatmaker displayed similar behavior at a separate non-charity concert on Wednesday night, according to several fans with allegations of similar conduct at CAVO, a Pittsburgh, Pa.-based club, on Wednesday (Jan. 27) night.
“The show was a joke,” Ed Kalchthaler wrote on CAVO’s Facebook page. “He didn’t do anything but just stand there and drink champagne.”
Despite Timbaland’s lack professionalism at Club Bleu, Jaworski stated that the event raised at least $3,000 Thursday night to buy bottles of water and filters for Flint.
