Actor O’Shea Jackson Jr., who played his father Ice Cube in the NWA biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” is among the actors chosen to perform live reads of select scenes from five winning screenplays written by this year’s Academy Nicholls fellows.

Kathy Baker, Freida Pinto and Jimmy Smits will also perform at the 2015 Academy Nicholl Fellowships Screenwriting Awards Presentation & Live Read.

The readings will be directed by Rodrigo Garcia and produced by Julie Lynn, the team behind the movie Albert Nobbs, who are both returning for the third year in a row.

The program will be presented by producer Stephanie Allain and screenwriters Billy Ray, Dana Stevens, Robin Swicord and Tyger Williams.

Last month five screenwriters were selected as winners of the 2015 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition out of 7,442 entries.

The 2015 Academy Nicholl Fellowships Screenwriting Awards Presentation & Live Read will take place at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on Nov. 4.

Jackson will be the only actor on stage who has just one film on his resume.

Below, the actor credits his acting coaches for bringing him so far in such a short period of time, and he thanks his “Straight Outta Compton” director F. Gary Gray for trusting him with the role:
