A Baltimore high school student has been charged with attempted murder after a brutal altercation with a classmate was caught on cell phone video on Wednesday.

Sean Johnson, a 17-year-old student at Frederick Douglass High School, can be seen in the footage punching his football teammate Darrien McDowell on the floor of the cafeteria. Before he walked away from the fight, Johnson stepped on McDowell’s head while he was suffering a seizure in a pool of his own blood.

WJZ Eyewitness News has not released that portion of the video, because it has been deemed too brutal to watch, CBS Baltimore reports.

According to the charging documents obtained by WJZ, the fight started when Johnson asked McDowell if he had taken the visor off his football helmet. The site spoke with Johnson’s mother:

“There are two sides to every story. My son is being portrayed as someone worse than he really is,” she said.

McDowell has been released from the hospital, but suffered a concussion, as well as nose and facial fractures.

School officials have canceled all after-school activities for the rest of the week to restore the mood and ensure safety. Despite an attempt by WJZ, Johnson and McDowell’s football coaches declined to comment on the altercation.

Johnson is being held without bond and will be tried as an adult.

      • I mean the other staff members, such as “monitors,” or whatever the title may be at that particular school. In the district in which I work, they are called “school resource officers.”

While the attack was very brutal, i don’t agree with the attempted murder charge, im sure that it will reduced to aggravated assault when everything is said & done, he certainly needs to be charged as an adult & receive atleast 6mos to a year of jail time though, cause that was animalistic

  2. “There are two sides to every story. My son is being portrayed as someone worse than he really is,” she said. She went on to say “When my son is not practicing or playing football, he is an honor roll student, volunteers at the soup kitchen, volunteers at the animal shelter and sings in the church choir.

  3. Why do stupid parents always stick-up and defend their out of control children?

It was bad enough to punch and beat the blood out of his teammate but then he added insult to injury by stepping on the kids head while he was having some type of seizure.

My heart goes out to the young man who was brutally beaten to a pulp. I hope he survives the beating.

In addition, I hope his parents press charges against the other kid and make the parents pay the medical bills that will be incurred.

Keep this animal , Johnson locked up in a cage where he belongs!!!!!!!
