Citing Tina Turner, Patti LaBelle and Aretha Franklin as her musical icons, we first met the 19-year-old North Carolina native in 2004 when she won American Idol and since then she’s consistently showed us that the magic of Fantasia will always win.
What exactly is her magic?
It’s the grit and soul in her voice. And she makes no apologies for it either.
The Grammy winning singer has chart-topping, triple-platinum and multi-platform success and yet still hasn’t gotten too comfortable. She’s an author, has appeared on Broadway twice and was inducted in the North Carolina Hall of Fame in 2014.
So what’s next for the mother of two? She’s working on her fifth studio album with R. Kelly. Yes, Robert Kelly. The pair were spotted in the studio last year.
Whatever she brings our way, whether it’s a return to Broadway, finally starring in the Mahalia Jackson biopic it’s sure to be big, bold and full of soul.
