Gossip site Radar Online is reporting that Whoopi Goldberg was on the verge of being fired from “The View” until Rosie O’Donnell announced over the weekend that she would be leaving the show by Friday…and now ABC execs are “livid” that their plans have been derailed.

An insider claims Goldberg’s job was on the line following months of back and forth feuding with her co-stars. After a network ultimatum to shape up or ship out had zero effect, “They were originally going to fire Whoopi,” a source told Radar.

“They expected Rosie and Whoopi to fix their issues, but it wasn’t working,” the source explained. “The show was barely stabilizing in the ratings so they decided to buy Whoopi out of her contract. They were going to do it after Rosie Perez came back from play rehearsals for a few weeks.”

Radar Online also claims that ABC wanted O’Donnell to take over the reigns of the ratings- challenged show:

“They were going to give the show to Rosie O’Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace,” added the source. “But Rosie’s divorce saved Whoopi’s job!”

After a short five months back on the popular gabfest since her previous sudden departure in 2007, the 52-year-old O’Donnell announced that she would leave “The View” to spend more time with her family as she and second wife Michelle Rounds end their nearly three-year-

marriage.

But it wasn’t a choice everyone on O’Donnell’s team supported.

“It was Cindi Berger — Rosie’s own publicist — who told execs not to give her the show. And Rosie’s team is divided about it,” said the source. “That’s because her agents pulled out all the stops to keep her on the show. They said they’d do anything to make the final few months balanced for her so she could take care of her family and personal life. But Cindi made the choice anyway and Rosie’s agents are annoyed.

And despite claims that the network supports O’Donnell’s decision, the source says it’s a different story behind the scenes.

“ABC is livid because they think it’s hypocritical of Rosie, who’s always been a

trailblazer who says she can balance it all between work and home life, to use family issues as an excuse for leaving,” said the source. “Now they can’t get rid of Whoopi.”

  1. I have not watched it in eons but I would guess the ensemble of people they have as replacements does not sit well with Whoopie and I have to agree. Seeing snippets of the show and talking with others who also stopped watching just this season- they have all said that its a modge podge of people who dont have any cohesive abilities with one another> i enjoy Whoopie though she and I vary on our same party politics. You cannot deny she is an Oscar Winner and should have a bit of consideration on whos he works with on a daily basis.

  2. I love and will miss Rosie O. I so enjoyed the couple weeks when Whoopie was in the hospital and Rosie held the moderator spot. She is very knowledgeable and is an excellent interviewer. Watch her so at ease with the guests. I would love to see a show combination of Rosie O as moderator, with Mario Cantone and Joy Behar. They are all so funny and relaxed, and I always find myself smiling when it’s Rosie in control. I couldn’t believe it when I heard she was going to quit. I quit watching when she left in 2007, and will quit watching again at the end of this week. So sorry to see you go, Rosie!

    • If Whoopi goes then so do a lot of others. Are you guys crazy to even consider getting her off the show. I will NOT miss Rosie O. Nothing mean about her but to me she is loud, intrusive, and somewhat pouty when folks don’t agree with her point of view. Whoopi and Nicole carry the show. With Rosie O. gone maybe others will be able to voice their opinions. And the craft sessions can go too… Boring! Stick with the hot topics and let folks really discuss them instead of fearing time voice their opinions. I say Let It (Rosie O.) Go!!!

Whoopi Goldberg’s nasty attitude is unbearable to watch. That’s why I watch “The Talk” now.
Why does she feel the need to instruct the viewers how to feel about topics, or how to behave?
Shouting and screaming at the camera, and lately giving the stink eye to producers behind the cameras.

I think they can still dump Whoopi and it will only help the rating. I can’t stand her any more. She hasn’t been even tolerant or tolerable for a long time and she became worse when Ms O’ Donnell came back on the show. Start fresh is needed. I’m over it.

Let me guess…these are the same sources that said Rosie Perez was going to be fired? The same one’s that had egg on their faces when one of the co-exec producer left the show instead AND Rosie O announced she was leaving? Are these the “inside sources” we’re referring to???

Why would ABC fire Whoopi? It blows my mind. In my mind Whoopi stabilizes the show and Rosie O has always been a problem both times she was part of the show. ABC should have learned the first time around.

the best thing that happened to that show is that big mouth rosie is going…. she should have never come back… did the producers really think this would work… maybe they should go too.

  9. The VIEW has a bunch of losers and they seem to be jealous of one another. It is time for Rosie and Whoope to go, she reminds be of somebody sitting on a toilet. Good Riddance to the show.

  10. I would not watch the view w/o whoopi on it. rosie looks like she is a misarable, very uphappy person. she never smiles and is has a very negative attitude about everything.

  11. Hey everyone, the only reason I watch “The View”is because of Whoopi! I have so much respect for this woman and love how she tells it like it is! (PS: and I’m white.& old!) My “bucket list ” is to see her “live”! Love her!!!!!

    • Whoopi makes the show even at the state it is in now! Rosie?? She always has some kind of sarcastic remark to try to stir Whoopi up. She had problems at home and that is where they should stay! The View with Rosie as the moderator and then Nicole and Rosie Perez? Yes I agree they might need to just cancel the show. It use to be one of my favorite shows.

  12. What do they mean when they say “Now we can’t get rid of Whoopi”! – If they were about to fire her and going to buy out her contract – they still can. Rosie’s leaving will not increase viewership – it’s just time to say “It was a good run and now it’s goodbye” – and if I were Whoopi and these rumors were the truth – I’d say “It was a good run and now it’s time for me to say goodbye”

  13. I hope people realize that the reason all those Network ultimatums did not work with Whoopi, is because she could care LESS. She is wealthy, she has many successful projects in the works and going on as we speak…..so who needs the View. By the way, I love this show. Just waiting for it to get its momentum back.

I agree with you. Whoopi is, and always has been, her own person, love her or hate her. If the networks wants a puppet that they can control, they’re not going to find it in her.

  14. One thing about it…and especially after the media debacle these past few weeks, with them making fools of themselves over the Bobbi Kristina’s stories coming out, with the misinformation….I take anything, anymore with a grain of salt. Unless this comes out of the “horses mouth”…..this means nothing.
