*The Reverend Al Sharpton is responding to comments made by Ed Mullins, president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) and Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) president Patrick Lynch.

“It is outrageously insulting to all police officers to say that we go out on our streets to choke people of color, as Al Sharpton stated while seated at the table right next to our mayor at City Hall,” Lynch said. “It is a person’s behavior that leads to interactions with the police, not who they are, not what they look like or how much money is in their pocket.”

Lynch was referring to a roundtable meeting at City Hall last week between Sharpton, Mayor Bill de Blasio, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton and others on police-community relations.

“Al Sharpton’s words do nothing to build a bond between New York City police officers and the communities that we serve and protect each and every day,” according to Lynch.

In an email to EURweb, here is Rev. Sharpton’s response:

“It is time to have a mature conversation about policing rather than immature name calling and childish attempts to scapegoat. Within the realm of criminal justice, my credibility and that of the National Action Network is established, even the President of the United States and the United States Attorney General spoke at our convention here in New York in April, and both have participated in several prior conventions.

Where were you all concerned? Rap Sheet? Baby Daddy? Sean Hannity would be proud. Wow, upstanding, inelligent negroes, ha, ha, ha. ” I’ sa sorry boss. I best be out yonder and bust somemore shifffarob” Is that it!?

Instead of worrying so much about a seriously overweight criminal with a rap sheet a mile long and a crazy pregnant woman who put herself AND her baby in danger by charging at them when all her stupid baby daddy had to do was move his cookout off the sidewalk. It will continue to be impossible to demand respect from others when we continually disrespect ourselves, families and communities by acting the fool, tearing down our communities and killing each other. Where were all you “concerned” folks when that idiot in New Jersey waited for the cops to show up for a robbery call and shot and killed the cop for no reason other than he wanted to kill cops. More outrageous than that, this idiot’s family was angry he got killed and felt he should have killed more cops! I will always say; intelligent, upstanding and forward moving black folks, detach yourselves from the fools, criminals and losers in our race. Let them eradicate themselves

God knows we need the police. I cannot imagine how lawlessness we would be without them. That having been said, the NYPD ( and police in general for that matter) ought to own up on what happened to Garner and swallow there puffed up pride. It is amazing to me, well maybe not so amazing as it is common to see folks come out of the woodwork and attack people with the most rude and crude statements they can think of. It used to be road rage, now its blog rage, hiding behind fictitious names has emboldened many to say anything they want under anonymity. I don’t agree with everything Al Sharpton has stood for, but there are actions has taken over the years which were justified. He has gone into the inner cities and tried squashing youth violence just as much as he has spoken out against the establishment. Whenever the right wing needs a racial scapegoat, Al Sharpton, and a few others are the first names they will call out. And predictably, as some of these comments dictate people jump right on that bandwagon and complicently beat the drum along with them. I am certain, Al has heard much worse over the years than the attacks which are sure to follow on this website. Any person that has ever stood up and went against the grain has always had and always will have their detractors. I’ve had a few of my own for simply standing up for issues in my own neighborhood. It comes with the territory. And I am not an opportunist or a phony. Just someone who cares.
It isn’t just white violence he has protested, contrary to popular belief. He has fought just as hard in Chicago and other places to try and address the black on black killing and crimes as well. Yes, we do need to stop killing each other, but that shouldn’t be on Al’s shoulders. That should be on the shoulders of every one of us, including those who come on this post with vicious verbal darts, name calling, and thinking up ways to embarrass other folks. Use some of that energy to do some of the things you claim Al isn’t. No, he isn’t perfect, far from it. But to watch those ENMT workers simply stand there and do nothing. They were either in that much fear of the police themselves or just didn’t give a … Well, you know. Either way, whether it was Al Sharpton or Mickey Mouse, someone needed to be at that table addressing the issue. Would any of us like to take on that challenge? Or, is it easier, to go get a cup of coffee and sit in front of your laptop and see who you can insult the most?

Sharpton and others had every right to call out NYPD for their war on Black folks in NYC.

There is a pattern of police brutality in the NYPD force that needs to be addressed!!!

Would they have choked to death a white boy the way they did Mr. Garner–No!!!!—-

Would they have placed an obviously pregnant White woman in a choke hold–No!!!!

There is no place for Racist, Brutal cops on any police force!

If cops don’t know how to deal with folks in the hood-then they should be doing their policing in the burbs or not be cops at all!!!!! —

The cops and the EMT workers involved in Mr Garner’s death need to be FIRED!!!—-
NYPD needs to be thoroughly investigated and these incidents not swept under the rug to be forgotten!!!!!!!!

  5. Where’s big Al every time (like everyday) when black kids, seniors, and everybody in between, are gunned down by thugs? Thousands every single year in this county – 250,000 since 1976!!! Oh right, it’s only when the killer is white or a cop.

Al Sharpton is a opportunistic clown who uses the same sheep minded black people he professes to care so much about. If he cared so much, he’d tell them the truth; get an education, use your money for the betterment of your family and communities, stop having babies you can’t and don’t want to care for and, for Christ’s sake, STOP KILLING EACH OTHER! But doing that would mean putting responsibility back in the hands of those same people he calls “victims!” BUT he and other frauds like him would never do that because that would mean the end of their parasitic, mooching careers
