Alicia Keys is at work on her next album. And her main focus and themes will be built around women.

Keys definitely wants to promote female empowerment and make women feel good about themselves with her new music.

This time around she will focus on her lyrical content for women and not as much the melody of her music.

“This time it’s more about what we’re going through as human beings,” she said.

She added, “we all experience similar things. I find that the world puts us in these boxes where we’re only allowed to be one way — like, ‘to succeed as a career woman, you need to do it this way,’ or ‘to be a gay man, you have to be this way.’”

And Keys is already writing, recording and producing her music for the album.

Already she has a favorite. It’s “Killing Your Mother.” Although the song’s title is to not be taken literally and is a play on emotions.

Focusing on emotionally-driven and point of views in her music will make the upcoming effort a conceptual piece and not an album with a bunch of non-cohesive tracks.

“Obviously record companies need to go where the business is, so we started making singles,” she said.

She added, “which is cool, but there’s something so amazing about an entire body of work, a collective view, that sense that all of this music came from one artist.”
