Beyonce shared her support for gay marriage on Tuesday, the first day of the Supreme Court hearings on California’s Prop 8, a ban on same-sex marriage.

In a short handwritten note posted to her Instagram and Facebook pages, Bey wrote “If you like it you should be able to put a ring on it,” Jay-Z’s wife wrote, riffing on the lyrics to her smash hit “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” Beneath that, she added the hashtag “WeWillUniteForMarriageEquality.”

Within 15 hours, the note had more than 211,000 “likes” on Instagram and over 30,600 shares on Facebook. “It’s about time,” the “Love on Top” singer, 31, said in another picture, which featured the hashtag “MarriageIsLove.” “Show your support!”

Beyonce wasn’t the only celebrity to promote marriage equality this week. Kate Walsh, Lance Bass, Padma Lakshmi, Ben Affleck, and Leonardo DiCaprio also showed their support by changing their Facebook profile pictures to a red version of the Human Rights Campaign logo, while other stars offered messages on Twitter.

“Today, the Supreme Court is hearing one of the most important cases in history,” “House of Lies” actress Kristen Bell wrote. “Don’t sleep on it. Equality matters.” (The pregnant star and fiance Dax Shepard have said they won’t wed until same-sex marriage is federalized.)

Beyonce’s husband voiced a similar sentiment last May. “I’ve always thought it was something that was still holding the country back,” Jay-Z, 43, told CNN of the ban on same-sex marriage. “What people do in their own homes is their business and you can choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination, plain and simple.”

  1. You’re certain so a great deal on the subject of this subject, made me for my part contemplate it from numerous diverse sides. It’s such as men and women are certainly not interested except in cases where it’s one thing to obtain along with Lady gaga! Your own personal items spectacular. Often deal with it!

  2. It doesn’t matter what they, or anyone else says. God is the same today as he was yesterday. All sins are sins, ie. Fornication, adultery, lying, stealing, murder, etc. If the world wants to make that legal and say that we are born that way, should we then jump on the bandwagon? Doing and living how we want seems to be the best thing when you re doing it, but when you submit to God’s authority and make him Lord of your life, you realize how silly you have been to have stabbeded him for so long. Yes, you still fall short, but you don’t practice it, push to legalize it, or psyche yourself up to believe it’s right. Believe says, Jay Z says, Rev. Al says, the Clinton’s say…what does God say? Tell the truth in love and stop perpetuating alien.

    • i agree with you tami, on some things, but jumping on the bandwagon, I won’t be voting on same sex marriage at all, my mind is for what GOD says ,,, not for what man says ,,, just because they say it
or they going to do it, does not mean I have to, Yes I fall short as well. But GOD said they will be marrying each other and having sex with each other. men becoming lovers of themselves more than lovers of GOD. they are always thinking about there own pleasures and desires.

  3. who cares what beyonce thinks about gay marriage, I don’t believe it ,, and her husband needs to quit lying about his age he knows dam well he is older than what he is saying, THere is no such thing
of gay marriage. Just because she believes in it, does not mean we others have to,, I have never believed in same sex marriage. do these people really believe they are married NO THEY ARE NOT,,
No I don’t believe in they should have even added that into our culture. really please give me a break
I’m so tired of hearing about how people feel that same sex marriage should be Okay it is not Okay,
and that is my opinion. yes I said it.
