Last weekend marked this year's annual Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day event in Philadelphia, PA. With free screenings, lectures, cooking demos and more, attendees took their health into their hands. Lives were literally saved, including several individuals who left the event in ambulances with life-threatening blood pressure and sugar levels.

Now this weekend, Tom takes his message to one of American's leading doctors. CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta understands the importance of preventive care and encourages all to stay on top of their health by going to the doctor regularly. And no group needs to heed this advice more than the men in our community.

"According to one government study, men are 25 percent less likely to see a doctor, and as a result, they're more likely to face health problems. Black men have some unique risk. They are more likely to die from prostate cancer, from heart disease, from diabetes," says the Atlanta, based neurosurgeon.

If you missed the event in Philadelphia, you catch Tom Joyner on "Sanjay Gupta MD" this Sunday at 7:30 a.m. ET/6:30 a.m. CT.
