The classic film "Steel Magnolias" starring Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Sally Field, and Daryl Hannah is undergoing a major makeover for the Lifetime Network remake of the movie, it will showcase an all- black cast.
The production includes a star studded cast who each have made their marks across different media platforms including music, TV, film, and theater. The decorated cast includes Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, Adepero Aduye, Condola Rashad, and Lance Gross.
Although the basic idea is very similar to the original, which also dealt with the issues of life, love, and family using a salon as the focal point of their bond. This version will center around the lives of six African American Louisiana women, aiming to provide a new outlook and fresh perspective on the classic film that reflects today's culture.
In a recent interview, President of Lifetime Network, Nancy Dubuc, explains "we could not be more thrilled and honored for them to bring Robert Harling’s poignant story about the strength of women to a whole new generation.”
The air date has not been released but is expected to premiere in October.
