WASHINGTON (AP) — White House chief of staff John Kelly says Confederate General Robert E. Lee was “an honorable man” and applying current thinking on social issues to figures in history is “very, very dangerous.”

Kelly also said in an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham that aired Monday night that the removal of monuments to the Confederacy shows “a lack of appreciation of history.” The retired Marine Corps general was responding to a question about a

Virginia church’s decision to remove historical markers for Lee and George Washington.

Kelly said the Civil War was sparked by “the lack of the ability to compromise.”

    Same ole rhetoric…
    God grant me the serenity
    to accept the things I cannot change;
    courage to change the things I can;
    and wisdom to know the difference.

    Living one day at a time;
    enjoying one moment at a time;
    accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
    taking, as He did, this sinful world
    as it is, not as I would have it;
    trusting that He will make all things right
    if I surrender to His Will;
    that I may be reasonably happy in this life
    and supremely happy with Him
    forever in the next.

    I know this is a pointless comment because some people will NEVER get it, because they don’t want to, they just want to s**t on blacks and tell us how stupid we are. But here is goes.
    It sounds stupid when people say black people are trying to force white people to like them. That’s not what most black people want at all. Black people want the same as everyone else in this country to be treated fairly and equally, or if not better. We want the same justices as our white counterparts for the same “crimes”. We want the best healthcare our money can buy; we don’t want to spend more to get less. We want the same pay for the same work and if our education dictates, even more. We want to live in peace in any neighborhood we choose to live. We want to own businesses and take care of our families, educate our kids without adversity arising at almost every turn. We want to be respected and we don’t want to be killed or harmed because someone doesn’t like the color of our skin. We especially want the same opportunities. F**K if whitey likes us or not, this world belongs none of us, we just live in it, and it’s especially not just for greedy white men.
    Are their plenty of black folks who don’t want those things and want to dependent on their government for housing, food, and transportation, hell yeah, but there are many more white folks that fit into this category.

      For people who dont care what the white man thinks of them, many of us whine too much about how he’s “holding us down.” Its futile to believe that anyone will be treated the same as anyone….And as I always point out-no one is going to treat anyone any better than they treat themselves…just to point out as well, no one is killing us more than we are killing us….you keep saying that we dont want to be killed due to the color of our skin, but you always avoid the fact that we are the ones doing the killing. Equality means the same, literally…why would you want to be treated the same as anyone? Don’t you determine what kind of treatment you’ll accept? NO other minority groups in the country whines as much as we do! Know why???? They are too busy creating their own stories, communities, wealth, traditions, etc….while we sit around waiting for the white man to give us permission to feel equal to him….I understand why some black folks think they have to rely on the white man to fix or create something we should be fixing or creating for ourselves…Trump is the WORST president elected in recent history and is bot capable or qualified to lead, but that does not mean we can’t move forward. Some of the same folks on here were,complaining that Obama wasn’t doing anything for black people.

    Removing statues of long dead people will not change yesterday’s history, today or tomorrow. Real change begins with the people who want the change. There are way more important issues to concentrate on…no matter how some black folks believe that they can force white people to acknowledge and like them; they are wasting their time and energy.

  4. someday issues with ML King will arise then what we start removing his statues, don’t think it can’t happen? Bill Cosby bring anything to mind

      Its just another diversion tactic to pacify the whiners…will removing a statue somehow change history? No…I can’t understand why we are so afraid to tackle the real, important and urgent issues WITHIN our own communities that would would take us farther ahead up the road.

    They better hope another civil war doesn’t happen, that is the direction this current administration is headed. The country is clearly divided. We need to get #45 out of office, clearly he doesn’t have America’s best interests.
    He called black ballplayers SOBs and said they are disrespecting our country and our flag but yet he is in bed with the Russians and Putin is his puppet master. They clearly want the sanctions or any bands lifted, the whole reason trump was elected. He is the true traitor of our country. And yet I hear no one but us calling him a SOB, along with a whole lot of other things. The dems and republithugs are spineless jellyfish and a true disgrace to our country. They are the worst.

    “the lack of the ability to compromise.” The only compromise the south was willing to except was they get to continue to own and enslave other human beings to secure their wealth. No less would have done. If the south had it their way. blacks would still be slaves.
