Despite Flavor Flav’s energetic antics and sometimes over-the-top behavior, he proves time and time again how he’s just a regular guy. From opening up businesses in hope of inspiring the inner city to sharing healthy food options for his children, Flav shows his passion for life.  At the beginning of 2014, Flavor Flav showed his intense emotion again when his mother, Anna Drayton, passed away suddenly.

Anna was seen on numerous shows with Flav and was quickly regarded to as much more than his mom, more like a confidant and friend.

Flav, credits his mother as an inspiration and support system. The two showcased their bond in a 2008 People.com interview where Flav told her, “I really wanna thank you for putting your all into me.”

“One thing she always say was do your do’s,” he recalled. “When you go out, you know your do’s and you know your don’ts. So do your do’s and leave the don’ts alone and you will be alright.”

Flav was a member of the influential 1980s rap group Public Enemy, whose songs addressing social awareness of African-Americans in urban areas became anthems in inner cities. Flavor Flav and Public Enemy were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.

After time away from music, he entered the reality television world with VH1’s “The Surreal Life” in 2004, where he developed a romantic relationship with former movie star Brigitte Nielsen. After the series and his relationship with Nielsen ended, he starred in three seasons of a “The Bachelor”-esque show, “Flavor of Love,” on MTV beginning in 2006.

Here’s a video of Flav sharing just how much his mom meant to him. https://youtu.be/vEKo7zXgRBg
