Dear Tom,

My youngest daughter, Cierra has been an outstanding student for as long as I can remember.  When she was in elementary school and had trouble grasping math she took it upon herself to sign-up for tutoring.  She now volunteers at her former elementary school tutoring struggling students.  She also is involved in the library of Virginia’s early childhood literacy department where she operates under the alias “Rocket”, the mascot for childhood literacy.

Cierra graduated from high school this past June and decided that she would take a bridge year in Ecuador, South America through The Global Citizen Year Program.   They are an international organization that nurtures the potential of the next generation of global leaders.  She has been helping at a women’s shelter, while building her fluency in Spanish.

Tom, my daughter will return to Richmond in early April and then leave for college to New York in August.  She is planning to earn a Liberal Arts degree in Global Studies and wants to use the knowledge she gains to tackle social issues within the African-American community.

Cierra really needs a laptop and she feels a MacBook is her best option for her classes and her career.  I am so very proud of her, but I cannot afford the expense of a computer and send her out of state.   If you could grant her this wish you would make her the happiest young lady in the world!
