Attention black moms and breastfeeding advocates! In recognition of Black Breastfeeding Week, we’re featuring an inspiring and quite funny video that puts breastfeeding in a positive light. Created by hip hop artist, R.S., the video “Poppin’ Bottles All Night” features a breast pump, baby cousin Yazzy, a yorkie, and a poodle all “popping baby bottles like they’re in the club” to a catchy song.
Not only is the video entertaining, but the subject, breastfeeding, has many benefits, including:
- Bonding between mother and baby
- Breast-fed children are more resistant to disease and infection early in life than formula-fed children
- Breast-fed children are less likely to contract a number of diseases later in life, including juvenile diabetes, multiple sclerosis and heart disease before the age of 15
- Mothers who breastfeed are less likely to develop osteoporosis later in life, are able to lose weight gained during pregnancy more easily and have a lower risk of breast, uterine and ovarian cancer
