FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — Fairfax County Police are investigating as a possible hate crime an attack in which a 12-year-old boy running a lemonade stand was hit with an apparent urine-filled balloon by a costumed attacker.

Police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said Thursday that the incident occurred July 6 on Monument Drive in Fairfax. The boy’s father told police that his son had been operating a lemonade stand outside an apartment complex when a man came out of one of the buildings, threw the balloon at the boy and fled.

The Washington Post reported (http://wapo.st/152kMkO) that, according to a search warrant affidavit, the man was wearing a full body leotard that concealed his identity. The affidavit states that the costumed man yelled at the boy, “Go back to Africa.”

No arrests have been made.
