FX has picked up a new untitled sitcom starring Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence as mismatched Chicago lawyers who develop an unlikely friendship, reports TV Guide.

The network acquired it in a “10/90” deal, which means it has initially ordered 10 episodes — but if the show hits a certain ratings benchmark, the network will then order an additional 90 episodes. FX made similar “10/90” deals for Charlie Sheen’s “Anger Management” and its upcoming George Lopez sitcom.

The sitcom would then be produced on an accelerated timetable, much like “Anger Management.” The companies between those two shows, Lionsgate and Debmar-Mercury, are also behind the Grammer/Lawrence sitcom. The show represents Grammer’s return to the comedy world after his critically acclaimed dramatic turn on Starz’s “Boss,” and Lawrence’s first regular TV role since “Martin.”

Comedy vets Bob Boyett and Robert Horn, whose credits include Family Matters, Perfect Strangers, Full House and Designing Women, are also behind this show.

“Martin is arguably one of the funniest men alive and after some success in drama I thought it might be time to try my hand at comedy,” Grammer says. “I am thrilled to have this extraordinary team show me the ropes. All kidding aside, I don’t think a better bunch of talent exists; I am honored and blessed.”

Says Lawrence: “I am excited to be returning to TV and to be working with Kelsey. We have a great time together so I am looking forward to making a good show with a lot of laughs.”
