Visiting Newtown High School Sunday, President Obama personally responded to a note that two teachers left for him on their classroom whiteboard.

Signed “Steve George, teacher/football coach” and “Bobby Pattison, teacher,” the note read: “Dear President Obama, The Newtown community is so thankful that you are coming to help us heal. In times of adversity it is reassuring to know that we have a strong leader to help us recover.”

Obama wrote back: “You’re in our thoughts and prayers,” and signed his name on the whiteboard.

Steve George later tweeted the above picture of their correspondence, along with the message: “@newtownfootball: Myself an[d] pattison left a note to president Obama on my board and he responded!!”
