  • George Zimmerman is living anything but well nowadays.

In an interview with the Univision show “Aquí y Ahora” (Here and Now) that aired Sunday, the former neighborhood watchman revealed that he is currently homeless as well as battling post-traumatic stress disorder.

When asked about the Trayvon Martin case, Zimmerman mentioned that he called the police prior to getting into the fight the led to Martin’s death and that Martin attacked and threatened to kill him.

“He (Martin) saw my gun and told me he would kill me, and I knew he was telling the truth. I mean, was not playing,” recalled Zimmerman, who was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in July. “I asked him to stop …. And the young man did not care. Continued attacking … I knew he would not stop even though I knew that someone had seen (the fight) and the police are coming. He did not care.”

Zimmerman added that he during his altercation with Martin, he didn’t think he initially shot Martin and that the bullet went through the side of his clothes and towards a neighbor’s house. The fight with Martin stopped immediately after the bullet was fired from Zimmerman’s gun, he said,

As for whether he thought he did the right thing, Zimmerman reinforced his answer to the question by stating that “in my mind and between God and me … I know that if I did not act the way I acted … I would not be here.”

Despite raising $350,000 online to pay for his defense during the Trayvon Martin trial, Zimmerman told “Aquí y Ahora” that the trial has resulted in him being $2.5 million in debt.

Before the interview ended, Zimmerman thanked those who supported him financially with donations.

“[To] those people I owe my freedom, because without them we could not have the experts we had, we could not have paid for the documents we [needed],” he said.

Since his acquittal, Zimmerman admitted that he is not working and has lost his health insurance. In addition, Zimmerman detailed wearing a bullet proof vest and following a safety plan when he goes out in public in light of him living in fear that his life is in danger.
