A white University of Alabama student has apologized for posting social media videos using the N-word and other racial profanities about African Americans – but she was still expelled from the southern college.

Harley Barber, a 19-year-old from New Jersey, went on a bizarre racist rant last week in which she posted multiple views about how much she hates black people.

In Barber’s first video, she says:

“We do not waste water,” Barber said. “We don’t waste water because of people in Syria. I love how I act like I love black people because I f–king hate n—–s. So, that’s really interesting — I f—king hate n—–s, but I just saved the f–king n—–s by shutting that water off.”

In a second video, Barber takes aim at Black folks and Martin Luther King, Jr.

“I’ve wanted to be in Alpha Phi since f–king high school and nobody f—king understands how much I love Alpha Phi,” Barber says, staring directly at the camera. “And now someone wants to save my finsta because I said n—-r? You know what? N—-r, n—-r, n—-r. I don’t care if it’s Martin Luther King Day.”

Barber said she’s received threatening phone calls because of her remarks. It marks the second time recently that a white college student has expressed racist sentiments about African-Americans.

Several universities across the country have instituted cultural workshops for students but it’s hard to change deep-rooted racial biases no matter how many diversity sessions colleges implement.

Barber is a classic example of a student with strong racial hostilities who clearly should have been expelled. There was no place for Barber in an institution for higher learning where she was required to interact with students of color on a daily basis.

“I did something really, really bad,” Barber told The Washington Post. “I don’t know what to do and I feel horrible. I’m wrong and there’s just no excuse for what I did.”

Barber’s apology sounds hollow. Did Barber apologize because she honestly felt she had done something terribly wrong? Or did she apologize because she was trying to avoid being kicked out of school?

Either way, Barber is out at the University of Alabama.

“These remarks are ignorant and disturbing and in no way reflect the values of The University of Alabama,” university spokesman Chris Bryant said in a statement. “This unfortunate behavior has been reported to the Office of Student Conduct as it does not align with the community expectations of students at the Capstone.”

On the video, a female voice can be heard urging Barber not to post the video, but she continues to curse.

“I’m in the South now, bitch,” Barber continued. “So everyone can f–k off. I’m from New Jersey, so I can say n—-r as much as I want.”

Barber’s mother, Jill Barbera, said she agreed with the school’s decision to expel her daughter.

“This is not a reflection of how she was raised,” Barbera told “She’s just degrading herself and it breaks my heart. I hope someone can look at this and learn. I don’t want anyone to feel what I feel.”

“I love my kid,” Barbera told “I wish this never happened for everyone involved. I can’t apologize for her actions, and I won’t. But I’ll apologize for the pain it caused people.”

Meanwhile, Barber is still apologizing.

“I’m an idiot,” she said.

I agree.

  1. I applaud UA!!!!!!!!! I am so tired of these white women who get a little juiced up and then seem to get some heart from where I do not know but I will say this, run up on my Black King and see what happens to you. White women wanna hate the black race but the black dick is not off limits tho right ( I hope my brothas are seeing this truth that came out in the dark because this is truly how most of them think undercover-I’ve had plenty of them as friends and learned they game) just like the white slave masters who had to taste the juice of the Black Queen. She needs to take several seats and pray that this doesn’t effect her getting a job because people are just tired of the BS like this. I know I am!!!! #ILoveBeingBlack #MelenationNation And oh that was the fakest apology I’ve heard in a long time she knew she was kissing goodbye the connections of being an Alpha. We’s not stupid ya know, we never were!!!!!

  2. You must have made your family very proud. Social media is a perpetual calling card for all future job opportunities of the like. I hope they all find this at the top of the investigation and background search.

Her president openly belittle and ridicule people and is sending the message that, this is the type of behavior that makes America great…..smh.

I do believe she is apologetic, but only for being stupid enough to hit post or submit…

  4. And she thought she was being so smart….smh….it just shows how truly dumb and ignorant she really is and the fact that she felt she had to come to the South to prove it !!!! What a dumbbell.

As person living in NJ ,I’d like to know where she thinks she can actually go & scream what’s in that video. Nowhere, the sad part is that she’s actually our future, it’s enough who we already have leading the free world Donald trump. She should have been expelled , her parents should be totally embrassed by what they raised. All learning starts at home period, it’s sad to know crap like this is still alive & running rampant

She just unveiled the pockets of racism in her state of New Jersey, and at the University of Alabama. The infamous “Machine” on the campus of UA needs to be completely eliminated and overhauled, with a more exclusive-yet-diverse panel of students. Yes, there are even blacks with a sellout, house negroe, Uncle-Sam attitude as though they are not African American, who need to be disciplinary educated on the fact that many slaves and activists sacrificed their lives for their lack of regard of who they are and where they came from.

  8. She’s not sorry and I am tired of these lame apologies after their ignorant, bigoted asses get caught. She deserved to be expelled and I have no sympathy for her. Now she can take her happy, expelled ass back to NJ.

That’s not an apology and besides a person can’t apologize for who they are. A racist can’t apologize for being racist no more than a person can apologize for being black, female or gay. She’s not sorry she’s just sorry for the black lash that she’s receiving.

  10. And y’all talk about how racist the south is and she’s from New Jersey. She thought that she can come down south and act like a bigot down here.
She had to learn this from somewhere and that somewhere is her home.
Being around her white counterparts around her school added more fuel (racism) to the fire.
