DETROIT (AP) — A civil rights organization is demanding the cancellation of concerts by Kid Rock at a new sports arena in Detroit, saying his criticism of NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick was a “dog whistle” to white supremacist groups.

National Action Network Detroit chapter president Charles Williams said Wednesday that his group will protest the concerts that start Tuesday at Little Caesars Arena.

Kaepernick, who is black, spurred controversy in 2016 when as a member of the San Francisco 49ers he knelt during the national anthem. Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, used an expletive about Kaepernick during a concert last month.

Ilitch Holdings President Christopher Ilitch says he can’t control “what any artist does or says.” Ilitch Holdings owns the company that operates the arena.

Kid Rock’s publicist, Kirt Webster, didn’t immediately reply to messages seeking comment.

I say to the NAN, don’t waste your time. Don’t try to suppress him, let him talk, we need to know who the racists are, they shouldn’t be in the closet.

Who the hell cares!!!! Instead of trying to control what people do and say, why don’t we focus on the ills in our communities that we can control….this makes us look petty.

  3. So a white man criticizes a black man he must be a Racist
Talk about a dog whistle the Race-baiters have truly lost their minds
Why doesn’t the Detroit NAN concentrate on something meaningful and worthwhile to aid the devastated AA population in that city rather than offer up bogus distractions real issues if Kid Rock never sets foot in MI Detroit AA’s will still be impoverished drinking bad water enduring high crime bad education

I think it’s a bit childish to demand Kid Rock’s Concert be cancelled because he said something about Kaepernick. We all have the right to Free Speech and Kid Rock exercised that right. If Kaepernick has a problem, he can bring Kid Rock to court for defamation.
I don’t recall anyone demanding the disbandment of BLM, the Black Panthers or ANTIFA. Be careful about wanting to limit free speech, you may limit yours during “The Cause”

Well the government did call for the disbandment of the Black Panthers, by going in their residents and killing them while they slept. Now that’s a disbandment if ever there was one. As far as Kid Rock, he’s irrelevant, I couldn’t care any less of what he says or thinks.
