African-American students at Harvard University will hold their own commencement ceremony on May 23, reports The Boston Globe.

From The Boston Globe:

Student organizers said the event, called Black Commencement 2017, is the first university wide ceremony for black students at Harvard, and is designed to celebrate their unique struggles and achievements at an elite institution that has been grappling with its historic ties to slavery.

More than 170 students and 530 guests have signed up to attend the ceremony, which will be held May 23 at Holmes Field, near the Harvard Law School campus. The event will feature speeches by black students, alumni, and administrators.

In related news, Elijah Devaughn Jr., who is a Black teenager from Compton, California, will be attending Harvard and graduating with the class of 2021, reports ABC News.

  1. Is it any wonder why MOST people hate Blacks!

    “We’s don’t needs to be wit da evil devils, we be str8 and chit. We blak so day betta let’s us do dis chit. Chit we be dummies but chit foo”

  2. Why? Lol,black people! It’s unbelievable how stupid acting your race can be, being black should be classified as a disability. You really are a race of retards and stupidity. If you can do this than we should be able to want to be separated from you without your whiny fits.

    So I suppose it’s not segregation and “not” racist if minorities choose to segregate themselves? If I were the dean of Harvard I would agree to allow a separate black graduation ceremony on one condition: tying it to ending permanently all scholarships to Harvard being awarded to blacks simply for being black. From here on they would have to actually (gasp!) EARN their way in. Still sound like a good deal?

    Now y’all know I’m PRO-BLACK, but I really don’t understand this, I need more clarification. I can’t imagine Harvard excluded POC from their normal commencements, why do these students feel this is necessary? Did something happen? What’s going on at Harvard that we don’t know about?

  5. Why go to a PWI then have separate commencement ceremonies. If the faculty/staff would have suggested that Eveyone would be up in arms about it calling for resignations etc. Go to an HBCU where you are wanted and you wouldn’t have to worry about this nonsense !

    Stupid. Imagine if there was a White Commencement…;
    Black folk cannot manage to get out of their own way when it comes to progression.

  7. Kudo’s to all the Harvard Grads of color!!!!!!!!!!

    It’s about time that we did our own thing instead of waiting to be invited to others parties!!!!!
