9/30/16- Jacque Reid goes Inside Her Story with Cookie Johnson about her new book Believing In Magic, having a healthy sex life and why she stayed after learning about her husband’s diagnosis.

“It’s been 25 years. It’s also been 25 years of him being HIV positive and we made the announcement. I look at how far we have come. We’re still here and we’re still thriving. It’s important to tell the world how God has worked in our lives and how He’s gotten us to this point,” she said.

  1. I purchased “Believing in Magic” and read the book on my way to work on the train and finished the book within days. I couldn’t put this book down. I love the Love story of Cookie and Magic. My husband and I both love the game of basketball and have been avid fans of Magic Johnson, I admire Cookie’s candor, honestly and most of all her love for her man. I am married and like all couples, nothing stays perfect forever. I believe GOD tests our strength when it comes to “For better or Worse”.

Thank you Cookie, I love the strong woman that you are. You remind me of myself, do or die!!

She stayed because she had no other sexual option. At that particular time NOBODY would have sex with a woman exposed to such a deadly disease. This was a case of “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!”

  3. He cheated on her in every NBA city across the country. She is weak for staying with him, because she knows she can’t stand on her own. I know this won’t sit well with the enabler crowd, but the Scholar has to give it to you straight.

  4. I appreciate her statement “life or death for him. This tells a lot that she talk to GOD about this than Man, for man will let you down. Also this is strength/character & courage. Hats off to her.

    • Amen!!!!! Right on. People need to understand what God made Mrs. Cookie Johnson understand, her husband is just a man with special gifts, and that God has the last word in everything that happens in their lives as long as she and her husband put him first:)

  5. All the money in the world I still wouldn’t want to be in her shoes. She is a brave and courage and extremely patient/forgiving woman.
