Malia Obama has been accused of smoking weed at Chicago’s Lollapalooza music festival last month after a video of her raising a tiny cigarette to her lips surfaced on Radar Online.
In the brief clip, the president’s eldest daughter was seen appearing to take a puff from what looks like a roach while attending Bryson Tiller’s show on July 31.
Witness Jerrdin Selwyn, 18, told the tabloid site, “I caught Malia smoking pot and I have the pictures to prove it. You could smell the marijuana smoke.”

Marijuana was recently decriminalized in Illinois, which means it’s still illegal, but the punishment and penalties are no longer severe.
Malia, 18, was also seen dancing at the festival. Online critics have been harsh, but Malia is heading to Harvard in 2017, after taking a ‘gap year’ and interning at the U.S. Embassy in Spain. Although ‘gap years’ which are common in Europe, are increasing in popularity here, it’s also possible Malia hoped the break would allow her to be under less pressure as her freshman year will now begin when her father is out of office. As we know, Malia has been living in the White House for the last 8 years, which means she’s been under scrutiny most teens can’t imagine.
While some may believe she’s also received many blessings as one of the daughters of the President, it should also be noted that she didn’t choose this life. But as any preacher’s kid knows, the expectations on them are much higher than a ‘normal’ teen. And many preacher’s kids struggle to keep up with those expectations.
