A petition to fire Jesse Williams from “Grey’s Anatomy” has been started at Change.org. The petition is titled, “Sign the petition to fire Jesse Williams from Grey’s Anatomy for racist rant,” and was created by an “Erin Smith,” which is probably a fake name.

In any event, the petition – which basically wants Shonda Rhimes and ABC to fire Williams – says:

“Jesse Williams spewed a racist, hate speech against law enforcement and white people at the BET awards. If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams’ actions. There’s been no companies making a stand against his racist remarks and no swift action condemning his negative attitude. Why was Burke’s character fired from Grey’s Anatomy after his inappropriate homophobic slur, but nothing for Jesse Williams? Why the one-way street? Why the support for a hater? Why the hypocrisy? #AllLivesMatter All humans bleed the same color. #EqualConsequences4RacistBehavior”

The petition, which has garnered more than 7,000 signatures since its creation on July 1, likens Williams to Isaiah Washington, who was released from “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2007 after Washington was alleged to have used a homophobic slur in reference to fellow actor T.R. Knight.

Shonda Rhimes’ first response to Williams’ speech came two days after the June 26 BET Awards in a tweet in which the creator of “Grey’s,” “Private Practice” and “Scandal” quoted Williams: “Just because we’re magic doesn’t mean we’re not real.”

In other words, it ain’t gonna happen.
