“It’ll never be 100 percent,” she said of her hearing with the implant. “I’ll never be able to hear the way I used to hear. That’s kind of hard.”
In addition to getting the implant, Donna has learned some sign language and uses a closed-caption home phone. She can also read lips.
Although Donna cannot work, she stays active in her community through volunteering. She said she is just grateful to have a chance to still live her life and be able to hear again with the implant.
“I just couldn’t see not doing it because it’s just a miracle,” she said.
