It was no huge surprise when Hillary released a video announcing her decision to run in the 2016 presidential election. Word about her campaign broke just before the weekend and reporters wanted to know what the President thought about her bid.

“I think she would be an excellent president and I’m not on the ballot,” the president told reporters during a recent press conference in Panama City, Florida, on Saturday. “I’m not going to step on her lines. I’m confident she’ll be very clear about her vision for the country moving forward.”

According to Raw Story, he added, “She was a formidable candidate in 2008. She was a great supporter of mine in the general election, she was an outstanding secretary of state, she is my friend.”

Clinton and President Obama went head-to-head for the 2008 Democratic presidential candidacy. When he won the position, she threw her support behind him and went on to become a part of his cabinet. As his former Secretary of State, President Obama came to know more about how she operates as politician, and he believes that experience would help her run the United States.

“She’s going to be able to handle herself really well in any conversations that take place around foreign policy,” The president said, adding that she would be excellent at tending to domestic matters as well. “Her track record with respect to domestic policy is, I think, one that cares about working families.”
