A Forestville, Md teacher was left bloodied and beaten after a student attacked him over allegations he made a racist remark. On Jan. 29, the Prince George’s County school system claimed a unnamed teacher who is white, was punched by a male student who is black, over remarks he interpreted as racially insensitive. The teacher was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The school system has refused to divulge the teacher’s name and what alleged remark was made due to the pending investigation. According to NBC Washington the student will be disciplined but there is no indication if he will criminally charged with the assault.

On Feb. 4, the school district released a statement saying:

On January 29, a misinterpretation of a comment in a classroom at Forestville High School resulted in an assault against a teacher. The teacher was treated for injuries at a local medical facility and released. School administrators and security staff are working together to investigate the incident. Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) is committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment in all schools. A letter was sent home to all Forestville parents and guardians to inform them of the incident and encourage them to reinforce with their students the importance of conducting themselves in a safe, responsible manner and to seek assistance if they need help resolving conflicts.

The teacher has since been released from the hospital, but has yet to return back to school. Watch the video below
