DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit public school district has fired a teacher after she used a broomstick to try and break up a fight between two teenage boys.

Cell phone video obtained by WJBK-TV and aired Tuesday shows the boys slugging it out in a Pershing High School ninth-grade classroom.

The video also shows the teacher — who is smaller than both boys — hitting one across his back to stop the altercation.

Education Achievement Authority spokeswoman Chrystal Wilson says the district has recommended the teacher’s firing to its board after the incident last Wednesday. She says the teacher can appeal and go before the board when it meets in June.

The teacher was hired in January. Her name was not released.

The boys, ages 15 and 16, received suspensions.

I agree this Teacher put her life on the line, trying to make peace and that was the only thing she could have done besides taking a chair and knocking these boys on the head and knocking them out. In Buffalo a teacher tried to brake up a fight, and the two girls turned on him and beat up the teacher. Now he is off on sick leave. Again that teacher put his life on the line in the name of peace. Detroit School Board use some common sense. I hope and pray that on her appeal she would get her job back.
