There seems to be little of his name sake in Metta World Peace‘s life. He was recently taken to family court because his baby mama says he is refusing to pay for their teenage son’s high school education.
According to court documents, Jennifer Palma says her college sweetheart Metta World Peace is refusing to help finance the education of their 13-year-old son Jeron Artest. Jeron is a gifted athlete who recently received a spot at Poly Prep Country Day School for the 2014-2015 school year. The tuition is $38,355 a year and Jeron’s father won’t fork over the cash despite having a multi-million dollar contract in the NBA.
Palma wrote in the court papers that the basketball star “dangles our son’s high-school education in front of me and uses his money to control and manipulate me to the detriment of our son.” Jennifer Palma goes on to say that Jeron is an honors student and is athletically gifted like his father and it would crush him if he couldn’t go to Poly Prep.
Palma’s attorney, Michael Stutman added that Metta World Peace made a nice sum of nine million dollars last year and his $3.2 million NBA contract was bought out by the Knicks last February, which led Palma to say that World Peace could most certainly afford to drop the cash on their son’s education.
Jennifer Palma is requesting that Metta World Peace put $140,000 into an escrow account for Jeron Artest’s high school tuition and she also wants $250,000 put into a private account to cover the young boy’s college expenses.
