The Smith children are growing up right before our eyes.
Willow and her big brother Jaden kick of 2014 with a new soul record — yes we said soul, not pop! — and it’s surprising good! In “5,” the 13-year-old sings about young love, but this time around it’s not too mature like her previous tracks “Summer Fling” and “Drowning.”
“Can you see the words rollin’ off my tongue?/ You’ve got the touch baby ’cause you’re the one,” Willow sings. Then, 15-year-old Jaden adds a few bars about his misfit status. “We don’t have no parents of the misfits or foster kids/ And we don’t have no friends cus all your fakies and narcissists/ A group of individuals, we kinda like sausages.”
Along with dropping new music, the seventh grader is the star of an edgy new spread in the latest issue of V Magazine, where she talks about her head-turning style and being an “independent” girl.
“I can never tell what I’m gonna wear. I kind of just put on whatever feels right,” she says. “Sometimes that’s Converse and a T-shirt, sometimes it’s Givenchy heels and leather pants.”
And as far as turing down the role of Annie, the youngest Smith adds “I’m enjoying just being independent and doing my own thing.”
“I just wanted to chill, and be at home, and decompress, and just find out what I wanna do and where I stand on this planet, with the little tiny place we have,” she explains. “I just feel like I want to do it different than the world’s ready for.”
Well, alright then Willow!
