I truly hope Rihanna knows what she’s doing.

Rihanna, a victim of domestic violence, is back with Chris Brown three years after Brown was arrested for assaulting her. Brown, 23, still has two years of probation to serve for his felony assault conviction.

In case you forgot the dramatic story line, here’s what happened in 2009: After Brown punched Rihanna, he put her in a headlock so tight that she couldn’t breathe and started to lose consciousness. He then threatened to kill her and he bit her ear and her fingers.

“He beat me up,” Rihanna told police.

And today, Brown is back in Rihanna’s life for better or worse.

“For a long time he was really angry, and he felt like he couldn’t get away from it, no matter what he did,” Rihanna said about Brown in a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

“But there’s so many reasons why I ever reconsidered having him in my life,” she said. “He’s not the monster everybody thinks. He’s a good person. He has a fantastic heart. He’s giving and loving. And he’s fun to be around. That’s what I love about him – he always makes me laugh. All I want to do is laugh, really – and I do that with him.”

Maybe Brown isn’t a monster. But a changed man? Brown’s actions suggest that he’s still the same old Chris Brown.

Just last week, Brown was involved in another violent brawl – this time with singer Frank Ocean.  Brown punched Ocean during a fight in a Los Angeles parking lot. The reason:  an argument over a parking space.

Brown has serious anger management issues. And my problem with Brown is that he takes his rage out on people — and women.

As a father of a young daughter, I question Rihanna’s judgment in reuniting with Brown who prefers to use his fists to manage his problems instead of walking away from trouble.

Brown is still immature, violent and irrational. He hasn’t learned how to control his temper and that makes for a volatile relationship.

“Of course everybody has their opinion about him, because of what he’s done,” Rihanna said. “That will always be there. But he made a mistake, and he’s paid his dues. He’s paid so much. And I know that’s not a place he would ever want to go back to. And sometimes people need support and encouragement, instead of ridicule and criticism and bashing.”

I think Brown has deep-rooted emotional problems that he has not addressed. As a young man, his mother was a victim of repeated acts of domestic abuse. After Brown’s parents’ divorce, his mother was beaten by her boyfriend.

Consider this statement by Brown:

“[I told my mother,] ‘I just want you to know that I love you, but I’m gonna take a baseball bat one day while you are at work, and I’m gonna kill him,’” Brown told Giant magazine in 2007. “He used to hit my mom … He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself. I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, I’m just gonna go crazy on him one day.”

I understand the anger Brown must have felt, but I believe Brown is still a work in progress and his violent tendencies stem from his violent upbringing.

Can Brown change his hot-tempered ways? Perhaps  – but he hasn’t changed yet.

“Listen, I’ll tell you right now: I don’t have to take it,” Rihanna told Rolling Stone. “If he gives me that again, here’s what I give him: nothing. I just walk away. He doesn’t have that luxury of (expletive) up again. That’s just not an option. I can’t say that nothing else will go wrong. But I’m pretty solid in knowing that he’s disgusted by that. And I wouldn’t have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility.”

Rihanna has made her decision about Brown. I only hope she doesn’t regret it.

You’re an idiot Ivan B. Charlie Sheen does not get a hall pass. He’s always talked about as being crazy and drugged out. He got fired from one of the most financially successful sitcoms of the decade. Idiots in pop culture think he’s great (just like some idiots think CB is great) but that dude gets no hall pass.

  3. We are all a work in progress. Who are you all to Judge. God has made miracles out of many. Look in the mirror and check yourselves, your own lives, none of us reside in a utopian society and all of us are fallible! Leave them alone, if you want to do something for them, pray for them, surround them with love so the veil forces of the world they live, work and play in can’t touch their souls and destroy them. Chris is now a Target, pray that God give him the strength for discipline and not to become ensnared into their demon traps they set to ruin black people. Stop being a freakin crab, he is human with a heart, blood feelings. No one is riding and targeting those white boys who beat their women, oh I guess that would be childhood indiscretion, even if the white beast is 50 years old. Can’t you see what they are doing to these youngbloods, pray that they can see it and not be so bound by avarice that they can’t walk away with peace in the midst of adversity. All the demonic love of money can substitute for peace. Trust fund the money and live in peace. They just want to sacrifice another black, so they can move on to the next. My prayer is Chris and Rihanna will NOT yield to their demonic traps. Pray for these youngsters!

  4. I believe that all of what happened in the car that night was not told. I think Rhianna saw a female picture and probably a text that she didn’t like on Chris’ phone which started all this crap and she probably threw the first punch. Now, I’m not condoning Chris Brown rants on any level or his reaction, but I know quite a few female from different islands and they will whip anyone’s behind and they don’t take to lightly to being played with. Has anyone noticed one thing, after that fight were there any pictures of Chris being handcuffed and arrested or taken into custody. When have you ever seen a black celebrity especially of Chris Browns’ status that TMZ or somebody in the media didn’t have one photo of him going to jail? Even Michael Jackson was shown handcuffed and going to be fingerprinted, questioned and probably bail out until trial! The first time his face was shown was in court with his attorney. All the media would show you was the pictures of Rhianna’s face still to this day. I think Rhianna smacked the hell out of him first, that’s why it’s been so easy for her to defend his honor and proclaim her love for him after three years!

hi there are some women who like to get beat, but not like that. everything that you said about chris was corrected he needs to grow up and be an honest young man. he must remember that he is a role modle for a lot of young men. i whis him good luck because they are truly in love with one another.

  6. Chris, I think is a good person a sweet young man we all have made mistake in our live’s we all been his age. young and hard head and we all have sin and came short of God Gory , i pray that God will help him and see his short comeing, I love you Chris, keep your head up and keep looking to the hill which come as your help, your help from the Lord. God got you. the world love it’s own, no matter what the media say God love little old you Chris Brown.

  7. This is unbelievable to me. I have kids CB’s age. I agree that he is a work in progress but his progress is being made much more difficult by all the negative bu**sh**t that these so called journalist keep pumping out on a daily basis trying to be recognized. They are like crabs in a barrel trying to get to the top. It is the typical human response, when a man is down we all fight to get a kick in. Makes us feel better about ourselves. The bottom line is CB is not perfect. He is young and needs to make a lot of positive changes and that will be helped with positive critique and encouragement not by the constant barrage of bs appearing in the media. As for Ri-ri. She is an adult and whatever she chooses to do with her life is her damn business. She will learn like the rest of us that choices have consequences.
    Get a life…

  8. “Brown is immature, violent and irrational. He has learned to how to control his temper and that makes for a volatile relationship.” You know something Cottman, the same thing can be said about Charlie Sheen. But because of his connections(i.e. father is Martin Sheen, etc.) he gets the equivalent of a hall pass. Chris Brown keeps getting dogged out by the media. And the last line of this story to me translates into Michael Cottman hoping he won’t have to write one about Rihanna being murdered by Chris Brown. Just say it Michael, don’t beat around the bush.
