NEW YORK (AP) — Supermodel Kate Upton has condemned the four Miami Dolphins players who knelt during the national anthem, writing on Instagram that their actions are “a disgrace to those people who have served and currently serve our country.”

The four players — running back Arian Foster, outside linebacker Jelani Jenkins, free safety Michael Thomas and wide receiver Kenny Stills — were down on their right knee as the song played before the Dolphins’ 12-10 loss to the Seahawks in Seattle on Sunday.

Their decision to not stand during the national anthem was the latest in a series of protests undertaken by a number of professional athletes in recent weeks, with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick beginning the demonstration prior to a preseason game last month.

Upton, who is engaged to Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, specifically condemned the players’ actions as “more horrific” because they occurred on the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

“I could never imagine multiple people sitting down during the national anthem on the Sept. 11th anniversary,” Upton wrote. “The lessons of 9/11 should teach us that if we come together, the world can be a better and more peaceful place.”

  1. Upton does not have a clue what’s going on with black lives. She is repeating garbage that she participated in around the dinner table. She does not have the mind set to think for herself- like so many others, she allows other people thoughts to be her thoughts. Crazy

  2. Some white people are clueless , Let white start getting shot down by cops, It would be the biggest uproar. I am proud of kapenik for doing what he believes!

Kate Upton has shown how stupid and uninformed she is by making these comments. Did she think it was a “disgrace” when an unarmed black man was shot in the back by a police officer? Or maybe she thought it was a disgrace when an unarmed black man was strangled to death by a police officer. And I’m SURE she thought it was a disgrace when a 12 yr-old boy playing with a toy gun was killed by a police officer. Funny, I don’t remember hearing of her expressing her ‘outrage’ over any of those incidents. So until she educates herself on WHY these protests are being made, I suggest Me. Upton STFU!

  4. When Donald Trump is preaching hate of all things except”white america” you didn’t have aproblem with that. But Racisim is a fact in this world ,you don’t have an opinion? Learn some history, or are you really just another “dumb blonde”?

  5. I don’t stand up for the national nor do i place my hand over my heart. If you are ok with them taking GOD out of everything then you should be ok with people expressing their opinions, until you can experience a Black person’s struggle in this hypocritical world your thoughts, opinions or disbelief is not wanted, when your brother, son or father are disrespected because of the color of their skin or the misconception of it then you can say something until then your thoughts, opinions or your disbelief does not mean SHIT

  6. Kate, STFU and sit yo’ Narrow @zz down, don’t nobody GAF if you feel how U do…the only beauty of this scenario is that IT’S OUR/THEIR RIGHT TO PROTEST as they are….I SERVED and SUPPORT THEIR Right to/Sit/Kneel/Fist Pump as they wanna, Now get over It!

  7. B!tch please, learn what the protest is really about before you put your 2 cents in and sound ignorant. Until then take several seats, since you are built so oddly you would probably look best that way !

  8. SHE SHOULD READ THE TOTAL SONG AND VERSES. THE SONG WAS WRITTEN BY A RACIST. I’M A VETERAN AND I’LL NEVER STAND FOR IT AGAIN. I FOUGHT FOR THAT RIGHT AND WHY SO MANY DUMB PEOPLE BELIEVE ITS ABOUT SOLDIERS. THE SONG WAS ONE MAN’S IGNORANT RACIST THOUGHT!!!!!

  9. I don’t think anyone is going to lose any sleep over what this woman cares or thinks. She’s entitled to her own opinion as are we!!

I didn’t know it was mandatory to stand for the National Anthem. “Drop her panties for them”, now that is funny but probable true

  11. She is obviously out of touch. Its a silent protest over injustice. They have that right, and obviously so, otherwise the NFL would have taken some type of action. I understand some college or high school coaches have threaten their players if they did so. It is somewhat ironic though because some of the same athletes (and coaches) love, marry, and spend millions on peeps like her, even more so these days. Keep doing it fellows in the memory of those who can no longer defend themselves over injustice upon them.

Let’s clear this up right now. For many years there have been many people (in stadiums and all sporting events) who do not stand for the National Anthem. But because these guys are black means it takes on a whole new different meaning. Are you kidding me? Trick No Good!!
All this has come about in order to cause DIVISION between Americans.

If you are wondering why, just look at the platform of this new guy running for the highest office in the land. It benefits him and only him, to DIVIDE Americans back to thinking that the country is so torn apart by color that America needs a new leader who will do nothing but tear it apart even more than what it has ALWAYS been. Hell….most of you folks think that this is just now going on. It’s been going on for years. Those of us who have served our country know we fought for people in America who will NEVER understand the real meaning of being an American because they never have been called to serve the country.

But as a soldier, we know that it don’t mean a doggone thing if a person does not stand during the Nations song. Not one doggone thing!! We fought for them to have that right, even though we understand that they will NEVER understand patriotism like we do.

We still live in the greatest & strongest country on the face of this earth. The Republi-klans are just trying to divide America.
But if you really want to see…..Pull up video of any sport or games dating back to whenever you want, and just look into the crowd when the National Anthem is being sung. It’s not a matter of who is standing it’s a matter of who believes in our country even with all the rotten eggs we have in it. What really makes me mad is that regular people and celebrities are falling for the call to divide America again…….Trick No Good!!!!!!!!!!

So let me get this right, It’s unpatriotic to sit during the anthem but it’s okay to boo The POTUS when he’s addressing the nation on 9/11? I see white folks forgot that 9/11 happened on Bush’s watch but it was Obama that sent the Seals in that ultimately lead to the demises of bin lauden! F kate upton! Stay in your lane tramp!

  14. Ms Curly on said:

Ok so let me make sure I understand, because yesterday was 9/11 everyone is supposed to salute the flag and stand for the national anthem? No one is forgetting about the folks who lost their lives on 9/11 but one should not expect a person NOT TO exercise their beliefs because it is 9/11. I agree with Crystal you can support both.

  15. Kate how about using ur influence to call for a new and real investigation of 911 to
bring the real perpetrators to justice. Then we can ALL honor the flag with dignity and
    pride.

  16. Who in the hell was taught that lesson by the events of 9/11? Since 9/12/2001, this country has been more polarized than any time since the 60’s. What’s under her blouse is far more compelling than what’s in her head.

  17. I can’t believe I’m agreeing w/a supermodel, but to protest the anthem on 9/11 was tasteless. Yes, it’s about the men and women who serve our country and it’s about the police and firemen who ran fearlessly into the burning buildings and lost their lives, it’s about the passengers on the planes who were flown to their deaths, its about the employees who worked in the towers and jumped to their deaths to escape the heat and flames and it’s about the families of the victims who saw their loved ones on tv die horrible deaths. I believe their is an exception to everything and on this day it should have been given.

You know what is tasteless — people of color who have laid down their lives and continue to do same — and coming home after serving this country in war and in times of freedom – to be denied the basic human dignity that should be afforded to everyone irregardless of skin color — that is what is tasteless and offensive. We as a people — love our country — but can no longer close a blind eye to the injustices that are being done to minorities at the hands of people who are supposed to protect and serve. Furthermore, when have you ever heard of a African American police officer – killing a White individual — never that I can recall. If same was the case, there would be a rush to prosecute and put on public display that individual and all officers of color would be discredited.

This is not our country. Never has been, nor will be. We just built it for the owners. She comes from privilege and doesn’t know the facts. And most likely not all the verses of the song. I know I didn’t. They didn’t teach us that when they taught us to sing it and be proud in elementary school.

    • Jack Brown on said:

The uninformed and blind need to focus more on the statement from their actions, not the method that used and those that strongly oppose the actions used do so as an easy way out to not addressing the real issue.

It’s not about the flag, anthem or 9-11; it’s about Americans that see the reality of blacks senselessly being targeted because they have the wrong color skin and there hasn’t been any discussion yet on what should be an acceptable platform to bring this situation to national attention other than the way that has been demonstrated.

I think that when a Black Voice is raised in protest to oppression, those who are comfortable with our oppression are the first to criticize us for daring to speak out against it.

Where was she when innocent blacks were being shot without a weapon or showing no
      resistance.
She needs to climb back into her ivory palace, do some homework on equality and injustice.

Some people want to remain fools, only because the truth requires change. If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.

Talking about a person who talks without understanding the conversation.
Some people will go to their graves carrying bitterness, incompleteness and ignorance from not learning how to think on their own.

      • My grandmother use to say “It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.” I certainly wish people would adhere to that saying sometimes!
