It appears as if the eldest first daughter is preparing for a future in international affairs.

Malia Obama, freshly graduated from high school, will spend her summer interning at the U.S. Embassy in Spain, according to ABC España. The 18-year-old will trade Pennsylvania Ave. for Serrano St. in Madrid.

The eldest daughter of President Obama, who graduated earlier this month from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, has decided to take a year off before starting at Harvard in the fall of 2017.

According to ABC, American embassies usually accept recent college graduates as State Department interns throughout the year. This apparent exception, and Malia’s choice of Spain, may be related to her father’s friendship with the U.S. ambassador in Madrid, James Costos, and his partner of 14 years, interior designer Michael S. Smith, notes ABC.

Costos was reportedly one of President Obama’s top donors during his reelection campaign in 2012. Before being appointed ambassador, he was a corporate executive in the retail and entertainment industries. Smith was commissioned to redecorate several rooms of the White House for Obama, according to ABC.

Malia’s should have no problem with the language. During Obama’s historic visit to Cuba in March, she acted as unofficial translator for her dad.
