In light of recent terrorist acts abroad and here in the United States, Donald Trump released a statement outlining one way he’d like to keep it from happening in America.

“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what the hell is going on. (Applause)  We have no choice.  We have no choice.” (Applause)

Citing research from Pew and the controversial Center for Security Policy, Trump says recent polls back him up.

“There is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population.

“25% of those polled agreed that violence against Americans here in the United States is justified as a part, think of that, as part of the global jihad. (Boo) They want to change your religion.  I don’t think so.  Not gonna happen.”

Trump went on to state that in that same poll 51% of respondents believe that America should have the choice of being governed according to Sharia law.

Trump’s comments are in direct contrast to what President Obama said in an oval office address the night before concerning Islam and terrorism.

“It’s our responsibility to reject proposals that Muslim Americans should somehow be treated differently. Because when we travel down that road, we lose. That kind of divisiveness, that betrayal of our values plays into the hands of groups like ISIL.”

Critics of the President accuse him of being unrealistic about the threat of what they call “radical Islam,” and that his dispassion is in part fueling passion around proposals like Trump’s.

They say Trump is only making public the conversations many people are having in private.

Others call say those conversations and Trumps proposals are, very simply, bigoted.
