  • A two-year-old toddler was found walking along a rainy New Orleans street Wednesday night after two men stole her father’s car from a gas station with her inside of it, reports NOLA.com.

The father left the girl inside of his black Infiniti G35 with the keys in the ignition, headlights and windshield wipers on, at around 10:30 p.m. while he went inside to pay for gas. A friend of the father’s was watching the girl from his nearby vehicle.

Two men in a red Chrysler PT pulled into the gas station. One got out and quickly got behind the wheel of the Infiniti and sped away, while the other man followed behind in the Chrysler.

The father and his friend gave chase, but to no avail. The girl was found about 20 minutes later in New Orleans’ Treme neighborhood and taken to the police station where she was reunited with her father.

NOPD 6th District Commander Robert Bardy said Thursday evening that the PT Cruiser used by the thieves also is believed stolen. Bardy said a car matching that description was stolen Tuesday night from the parking lot of Wagner’s Meat, a supermarket in the 2000 block of South Claiborne Avenue. That car’s owner had similarly turned his back on a vehicle that still was running with keys inside.
