A Black police officer out of Arkansas was shot and killed in his home according to Fox News.
Oliver Johnson Jr. of the Forrest City Police Department was killed inside his home on April 28. A little before 2 p.m. an unidentified person came to his home and shot bullets at his home.
According to neighbors, children were inside of the house at the time one of which was his daughter. A family member inside the house at the time said Johnson died after being hit by a bullet. That family member attempted to perform CPR on him. Portia Weatherspoon, a relative of Johnson, recalled hearing 40 shots go off.
“They hit the apartment. They hit the car. They hit the whole place up,” explained a witness to the shooting.
Believed to not be targeted, authorities are still investigating the incident and are hoping to find out who the suspects are.
It was an encounter between the suspects and another group outside of the apartment,” according to West Memphis Police Capt. Joe Baker. “This hits everyone a little close to home in law enforcement. He was a police officer, some of my officers did, in fact, know him.”
Johnson leaves behind two daughters and a fiancé. They were in the midst of planning a birthday party for their youngest daughter.
