A teenage boy out of West Chicago was shot in the arm on Thursday, September 7 by an officer.
Police were responding to a call of shots fired in the neighborhood of Lawndale.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, the 16-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
The Chicago Tribune reports officers responded to calls before 10 p.m. When they arrived they saw a young man running through a gangway that lead to an alley according to Sgt. Cindy Guerra.
An officer got out of the car and started running after the young man. A struggle between the officer and the assailant ensued before the officer shot him in the arm.
A tourniquet was used by officers to help the gunshot wound until ambulance services arrived.
The 16-year-old has stabilized since being in the hospital. No officers were injured and a gun was recovered at the scene.
